On Sunday, authorities announced the arrest of a man suspected of killing one of his coworkers with a baseball bat and other weapons at a microprocessor manufacturing facility in Chandler. The other guy was injured in the attack.
Derrick Lemond Simmons was arrested and placed in a Maricopa County jail on suspicion of first-degree murder and aggravated assault, according to the Chandler police.
The victim’s death was attributed to blunt-force trauma from a baseball bat, hatchet, and knife, according to court filings. The incident occurred in the cafeteria of Intel’s Ocotillo Campus.
Another person was rushed to the hospital, although their injuries were not life-threatening, according to the police. On Sunday, authorities still hadn’t released the ages or names of the two men who were attacked, and they said they hadn’t determined whether or not there was a reason.
It was also unclear if Simmons had retained legal counsel to represent him. According to court documents, Simmons was convicted of aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon in 2001. Further information about this case is currently unavailable.
Around 6:15 a.m. on Saturday, police were called to the Intel Ocotillo Campus in response to reports of an assault.

They reported seeing Simmons near the building’s entrance while he was hauling about two duffel bags. The documents state that witnesses informed police that after the night shift left, Simmons went up to a man sitting at a table in the cafeteria and struck him many times in the head with a baseball bat.
When the other coworker at the table got up to confront Simmons, he was allegedly attacked.
