With the release of Diablo IV imminent, players are gearing up for all the information regarding classes, bosses, and all things related to Diablo IV. Today, we will be joining that information train to bring you all we know on the Necromancer in Diablo IV, along with some potential lore speculations that will leave you thinking; either way, let’s get into the guide!
What is the Necromancer Class?
The Necromancer is 1 of 5 playable classes within Diablo IV. A lot of speculation relates to the necromancer as an evil puppeteer for Lilith, but only time will tell within the game lore. Deceptively evil, Necromancers primarily utilize corpses or summoning magic, taking a previously slain mortal soul and bringing it back to life through blood magic. In many cultures (like the culture of Diablo IV), Necromancy is seen as evil or devil-worshipping magic.
In Diablo IV, The necromancer will be a class that utilizes corpses and summoning magic to deal damage and will be the primary playstyle of this class. If you enjoy controlling multiple allies and dealing curses, poison, and other affliction-style magic, then necromancer is the class for you. But remember, if you choose to play this class, then beware of how squishy or “Weak” their own body is, so staying in the back is the only way to play this class.
Necromancer – an In-depth Look
With a bit of backstory and speculation about how they will play out in Diablo IV, let’s look at the gameplay and build that we can expect for the Necromancer in Diablo IV.
Consumables
The necromancer, as confirmed by Blizzard, will have two forms of resources to consume, namely:
- Corpses
- Essence
Corpses are pretty straightforward, and we touched on them earlier in this article; however, let’s discuss them in more detail. Corpses act as their resource and allow the necromancer to summon an army from them or use the famous ability called “Corpse explosion,” which would force a corpse to explode, causing AoE damage. Also, additional skills such as decomposition would allow more corpses to be resurrected, ensuring the necromancer has an army with them at all times.
Essence is different and works like mana for most other classes. Essence is the resource used to cast curses and various other magical abilities the necromancer has in their arsenal. The regeneration and exact costs have not been released to the public, but we assume it will work with mana potions or act as a currency for slaying enemies, etc.
Weapons
Necromancer can equip a large variety of caster weapons, including:
- Scythes
- Swords
- Daggers
- Wands
- Focuses
- Shields
The unique weapon for the necromancer class (only equippable by a necromancer) is the Scythe which looks incredibly daunting and appropriate for the class. As for stats and stat priority with weaponry, it will look the same as the DLC Diablo III Necromancer, which is intellect.
Curses
Curses are necromancers’ best friends and are their main source of damage outside corpse builds. Curses will do DoT (Damage over time) and will likely be used outside of other skill cool-downs.
Curses are also a fun way to experience this class, as previous games showed them as passive buffs that would either reflect physical damage to the attacker or slow their movement speed. We can expect a lot of exciting Curses from Diablo IV as Blizzard has made mention of their existence and prevalence throughout Diablo IV.
We hope to get a guide on all Necromancer Curses as soon as the game is released, so keep your eyes peeled on SSEGold news section for any updates.
Necromancer Spells
A guide can only be complete with a look through some spells. Let’s look through some of them now, starting with:
Bone Skills
Bone Prison – is an ability in which the necromancer slams their weapon to the floor, imprisoning all enemies within that bone structure. The necromancer can cast this ability where they choose and can move the battlefield to their whim.
Bone Spirit – Bone Spirit is an ability in which the necromancer consumes all essence to summon a Bone Spirit to seek out the nearest enemy and explode on them, causing AoE Damage.
Bone Spear – A spell in which the necromancer casts a spear made of bone and throws it at a target location dealing magical damage to all enemies it passes through.
Darkness Skills
Darkness skills are the necromancers DoT’s
Decompose – The necromancer casts this ability which envelopes the target in a dark shroud and deals DoT damage.
Blight – Similar to Bone Spirit, the necromancer casts a ball of toxic blight to the nearest target, exploding on impact in AoE and causing a DoT.
Blood Skills
Blood Skills are tailored for Corpse necromancer builds and will enhance their damage.
Blood Surge – The Necromancer draws blood from nearby corpses and explodes in an AoE fountain of blood, dealing damage based on how much blood the necromancer receives.
.Blood Mist – Blood mist is a necromancer’s saving grace in that it turns the necromancer into a mist of blood, making them invulnerable and allowing their minions to overwhelm the enemies while taking no damage.
Book of the Dead
Book of the Dead is a Necromancers’s right hand, allowing the necromancer to summon and customize their undead army. Diablo IV has way more customization options for all of the necromancer summons; this is a breath of fresh air for all who were bored with Diablo III’s necromancer.
Here is a list of all possible summons for the necromancer in Diablo IV:
- Skeletal Mages
- Skeletal Warriors
- Golems
There are skill trees and various customizable options for all of these summons, but they are subject to change during development.
