Actress Bella Ramsey has expressed her anticipation for the lesbian relationship plotline that will reportedly be featured in The Last of Us upcoming second season. To date, the post-apocalyptic show has largely followed the plot of the video game on which it is based.
If this trend continues, the next season could be inspired by the second game in the series and focus on Ramsey’s character Ellie’s romantic entanglements with her friend Dina.
The actress also spoke about the strained relationship between Ellie and Joel played by Pedro Pascal in the show bringing up the five-year gap between the events of the first and second game as a contributing factor. she said,
The complexity of her relationship with Joel and how that gets decidedly more complex is something that Ramsey is looking forward to exploring and the opportunity to potentially explore that kind of violence in a very safe setting is exciting. You’ll dig it. But, of course, I’m worried about it too. She summed it up as being really sad which given the first season’s occurrences isn’t too farfetched.
Ellie played by Ramsey begins dating another female character named Dina in “The Last of Us Part II” and a transgender character named Lev is also introduced.
In an interview with GQ, Ramsey, who recently observed a writing session for Season 2 of “The Last of Us” predicted that the upcoming season will most likely follow the storyline of the games again. She told GQ that
She wasn’t worried about people being offended by the increasing representation of the LGBTQ community in the survival drama. People will think whatever it is they want to think. But they’ll have to adjust to the new normal. Ignoring the show because of its depiction of homos*xuality or a transgender person is a mistake; if you do so, you will be missing out.
Ramsey continued, “I’m not going to let it scare me”. Season 2 of “Westworld” has been given the go-ahead by HBO and GQ reports that Ramsey is excited to potentially explore the relationship between Ellie and Dina. She said, “There are a few bits with Ellie on her own probably but I like the fact that she also has Dina now”.
Ramsey said she has always felt “very fluid” in terms of her gender in an interview with the New York Times published in January in which she also discussed her own experiences within the LGBTQ community.
