Jakub Jankto, a professional soccer player for the Czech Republic, came out as homos*xual recently and said he plans to move forward with his life “without fears”. On Monday, the Sparta Prague midfielder posted a video to social media in which he declared his desire to no longer “hide” himself and to live his life “in freedom.”

He explained, Like everyone else, I have my strengths and flaws, my family and friends, and my own set of unique qualities.

He said: “Like everybody else, I have my strengths, I have my weaknesses, I have my family, I have my friends.

“Like everybody else, I also want to live my life in freedom. Without fears. Without prejudice. Without violence. But with love. I’m homos*xual and I no longer want to hide myself.”

In response to Jankto’s revelation, Sparta Prague stated, “Jakub spoke freely about his s*xual orientation with the club some time ago.” The rest is about his private life. I have nothing extra to add. Let the questioning end. Count on us to back you up 100%. Just get on with it, Jacob. The rest is irrelevant.

In October of 2021, Josh Cavallo came out as gay, making him the first active male professional football player to do so since Justin Fashanu in 1990.

In May of 2022, Blackpool forward Jake Daniels made history by coming out as gay, being the first male player in the UK to do so since Fashanu. Additionally, Scottish footballer, Zander Murray came out as gay last year, making him the first out-gay player in Scotland’s men’s professional leagues since Fashanu, who played for Hearts in 1994.

Robbie Rogers, a former midfielder for the United States men’s national team, came out as homos*xual and announced his retirement from soccer in the same blog post in 2013.

A supporter of Jankto’s choice to come out as gay, Neymar Jr. said:

“It’s an important day. Everyone is free, prejudices must be less important, whether it’s homophobia, racism, any form of discrimination. But every human being should be free to do whatever they want. You cannot forbid anyone to be what they want to be. You have to be free.”

The 27-year-old Jankto has appeared in 45 international matches for the Czech Republic, helping them go to the quarterfinals of the European Championship in 2021. He is currently on loan from La Liga club Getafe to Serie A club Sparta Prague after playing 155 times for Sampdoria and Udinese.
