One of the three defendants on trial for XXXtentacion’s murder, Dedrick Williams, has had a number of musicians listed as potential witnesses since December, and one of those artists has now been subpoenaed to testify in court.
Drake and XXX, whose real name was Jahseh Onfroy and who was shot and killed in 2018, were involved in a rivalry, thus XXX’s defense counsel, Mauricio Padilla, believes the Certified Lover Boy superstar is connected to XXX’s death and attempted to subpoena him last month.
A court document obtained by Billboard states that Drake did not show up for his scheduled deposition on January 27 and is now required to appear for a deposition via Zoom video on February 24. He could be held in contempt if he doesn’t show up again.
When Drake didn’t help him out when he was in jail in 2016–2017, “Onfroy aggressively tormented Graham on social media making insults about his mother and even posted a picture of a Drake-like alike with semen on his face,” according to a court document from December.
When DJ Akademiks was asked to upload the shot, rumors spread that XXX was somehow involved.
Drake was accused of being involved in “gang-related operations,” with a “suspected member of the Jungle Bloods Street Gang” Hassan Ali, a Somali Canadian rapper, being named as a probable associate in the complaint. As Ali explained to Akademiks in an interview, he is “Drake’s shooter.”

Padilla named Quavo, Offset, the late Migos rapper Takeoff, Tekashi 6ix9ine, and Joe Budden as potential witnesses in a December filing, but at a court later reported by the Miami Herald, prosecutors labeled the move a ruse.
“It is apparent from the deliberate, late disclosure of the defendant’s witnesses and comments made between the parties that [the] defendant intended to ‘surprise’ the state and create a trial by ambush,” wrote prosecutor Pascale Achille, as reported by the Herald.
“They are high-profile people. And it’s not easy for me to subpoena,” Padilla answered. “I don’t have numbers, but it doesn’t mean I won’t be able to. Trying to subpoena Drake is not easy — you need a drone.”
