Disney did not skimp on commercials during the big game, showing previews for Indiana Jones 5 and The Mandalorian. With time running out in the fourth quarter, the Mouse also unveiled a lengthy teaser commemorating its first century of existence. The official date of the company’s centennial is October 16, although festivities will continue all year long.
The first step is the debut of a brand-new commercial during Super Bowl LVII. Scenes from Pixar films, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the Star Wars sagas, as well as those from other Disney classics and fan favorites, are featured in the “Disney100 Special Look,” which also features remarks from the company’s creator, Walt Disney.
The “Disney100 Special Look” commercial will air during halftime of tonight’s game between the Chiefs and the Eagles, and you can view it in the player below in anticipation.
The commercial follows the recent news that a third Frozen film, a fifth Toy Story film, and a Zootopia film are all in the works. These were disclosed in conjunction with the company-wide reorganization and cost-cutting initiatives that will lead to the layoff of 7,000 people.
“As we commemorate our historic 100th anniversary, it is remarkable to look back at Walt Disney’s legacy and his passionate pursuit of excellence that continue to propel the Company forward today.
We are incredibly grateful to the generations of people all over the world for being such a special part of our history and for inviting our stories and characters into their lives over the past century,” said Robert A. Iger, Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company in a statement.
“Disney100 represents a celebration of all of our fans and families, and our storytellers and creative visionaries whose talents and imaginations have created the magical moments that make Disney such an enduring part of the global culture. “
More of Disney’s centennial plans are detailed in the press release that debuts alongside the ad. On February 17th, audiences may see the next feature from Marvel Studios, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. Opening at Philadelphia’s The Franklin Institute on February 18, Disney100: The Exhibition is a 15,000-square-foot, 10-gallery experience that brings Disney tales to life through interactive technology.
More than 250 pieces of original artwork, antiques, costumes, props, theme park attraction vehicles, and more from the Walt Disney Archives “Crown Jewels” collection will be on display. Both the United States and Europe will get to see this exhibition as it tours the continent.
In May, Disney will release The Little Mermaid and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and later that year, in the summer, they will release Elemental, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, The Marvels, and The Haunted Mansion. On November 22nd, Wish will make its premiere in theatres.
