A lawyer was shot by his own gun when he forgot to take it off before going into the MRI room at the hospital.
Jam Press says that on January 16, Leandro Mathias de Novaes took his mother to Laboratorio Cura in So Paulo, Brazil, for a scan.
The 40-year-old man didn’t tell the hospital staff that he was carrying a gun, even though he was told to take off all metal objects before going into the scanning room.

The pro-gun lawyer’s gun went off when the magnetic field from the MRI scanner pulled it out of his waistband. He was shot in the stomach.
He died on February 6 at the So Luiz Morumbi Hospital, where he was fighting for his life. The victim was a lawyer, but he also posted pro-gun content on TikTok and Instagram for his 12,000 followers.
A spokesperson for the Order of Attorneys of Brazil in Cotia, São Paulo said –
“It is with deep regret that OAB Cotia communicates to all fellow lawyers the unexpected loss of our dear friend and lawyer Dr Leandro Mathias de Novaes.”
“We are sorry for the loss and we sympathise with his family in this moment of pain.”
A spokesperson for Laboratorio Cura said –
“We would like to emphasize that all accident prevention protocols were followed by the Cura team, as is customary in all units.”
“Both the patient and his companion were properly instructed regarding the procedures for accessing the examination room and warned about the removal of any and all metallic objects.”
The lab also said that both Leandro and his mother signed a form about the protocols, but the victim allegedly didn’t say anything about his gun, and he brought it into the exam room “on his own decision.”
The police made sure that the lawyer had a valid license and that the gun was registered.
