Unfortunately, the DC film franchise has been on life support for some years. As early as the first Justice League film, it was obvious that the franchises’ grand vision for their futures was doomed to fail. Since James Gunn and Peter Safran formally assumed control of DC movies and began constructing their own version of the world, it has felt like things were either coming to an end or just getting beginning with each subsequent film. Thus, it’s possible that Shazam! The latest trailer for Fury of the Gods looks and sounds really strange.
The latest trailer for Shazam! 2 was published on Thursday, and it seemingly spoils the entire film. Plenty of jokes and what appear to be the film’s final fight are included in this scene. However, none of it has a sense of dramatic or global significance.
Warner Bros. was still supporting the revamped DC Extended Universe as recently as San Diego Comic-Con 2022. This time, the Shazam family would be at the heart of events, with Black Adam playing the role of anti-hero or villain and the Justice Society playing a significant supporting part. Since Black Adam bombed at the box office and a new regime has taken control of Hollywood production, we can safely assume that none of these plans are still in the works.

Though it may seem like the final chapter in the DC canon, this is not the conclusion. In truth, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is scheduled for release in the latter half of 2023, while a Flash movie has yet to be released but is expected to do so in the future.
Although the first Shazam! was one of the more enjoyable and successful DC efforts of late, the sequel feels like the unintentional season finale of a show that was abruptly terminated. Certainly, there is still the potential for enjoyment, but it’s tough to get more pumped up about what’s coming next than what’s doomed to never happen.
