The return of Lil Boat. Lil Yachty’s debut album in nearly three years, Let’s Start Here, continues the success of his viral hit “Poland.” Featuring guest performances from Daniel Caesar, Justine Skye, Fousheé and Diana Gordon, the dreamy 14-track album is a departure from his rap-heavy previous projects.
The absence of “Poland” from the list of songs seems surprising. Drake and Wiz Khalifa both endorsed the internet sensation, which peaked at No. 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 in October.
Last year, Yachty declared to Ice Box that his upcoming album would not contain any rapping. It’s underground, it’s horrible… It reminds me of a trippy, counterculture endeavor. I’ve never seen anything like it. There are no recordings used, only live instruments.
The 25-year-old MC enters a new phase with the release of Let’s Start Here. In other words, I’ve altered my dynamic. From this album forward, I’m taking a very different approach to make music. The collaboration between Yachty, Drake, and DaBaby on the song “Oprah’s Bank Account” helped his previous album, Lil Boat 3, debut at No. 14 in May of 2020.
