Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy announced Thursday horrible news,5 Memphis cops are indicted on Nichols’s death. In the arrest and beaten case of Tyre Nichols, who died on 10 January, five Memophic police officers are fired, summoned, and jailed. Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr., and Justin Smith all five faced many charges like kidnapping, murder, official operation, and many others from the beginning of the month. All these fives are black officers. Steve Mulroy said, “the actions of all of them resulted in the death of Tyre Nichols and they are all responsible.”
On Wednesday, Memphis Police Chief Carolyn Davis provide a video statement which you can watch, she was saying, “the horrific circumstances” of Nichols’ death. Even “the incident was heinous, reckless, and inhumane.”
Second-degree murder is a charge of “knowing to kill another.” Nichols 29 years, a black man, was hospitalized after a traffic stop, and “confrontation”, his family attorney claimed to Memphis police a very cruel beating. Nichols was arrested on 7 January and died after three days because of injuries. All Memphis police officers have been under probe now, because of their treatment of black people. In 2020, another murder by the Minneapolis police of Georg Floyd, to save the black people mass protest movement.
Nichols’s family said that he was an innocent boy who loved skateboarding, photography, and sunsets. Memphis called for a univalent protest ahead. All the schools in that region were canceled because of public safety. According to a video released on Monday, his parents said that the police beat him several times, they compared it with the Rodney King case which happened in 1991. Antonio Romanucci his attorney compared it to an “MMA fight” where Nichols was “helpless, he was defenseless, he was restrained.”
His mother Ravaughn Wells said that she could not see the video, it was a horrific video, but requested to calm protesters. “I don’t want us burning up our cities, tearing up the streets, because that’s not what my son stood for,” said Wells.
According to the report of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, three police officers from them were in custody at the Shelby County Jail Thursday night. All three’s bonds are set to $350,000 for Haley, 30, and Martin, 30, and $250,000 for Bean, 24. Attorneys of Mills and Martin said that they have not watched the encounter video yet.

The video of a fatal police encounter which was prepared after mixing a body camera and pole cam video will go to release on Friday at 6 p.m. Mulroy said. He also said that even though he has no idea why the encounter take place but the officers were “already highly charged up” from the beginning and “it just escalated further from there.” Although the video is not captured from the beginning, but rather “cuts in as the first encounter is in progress,” Mulroy said.
“What struck me (about the video) is how many different incidents of unwarranted force occurred sporadically by different individuals over a long period of time,” the district attorney added. “I’m sickened by what I saw and what we’ve learned from our extensive and thorough investigation,” he said. “I’ve seen the video, and as DA Mulroy stated, you will too. In a word, it’s absolutely appalling.”
Ben Crump and Romanucci also gave their statement for Nichols Justics, “The news today from Memphis officials that these five officers are being held criminally accountable for their deadly and brutal actions gives us hope as we continue to push for justice for Tyre.”

On 7 January he was arrested by the Memphis police for reckless driving. When police caught his vehicle, he run away. Later police caught him and put him into custody. During the custody, he was too beaten that ‘extensive bleeding caused by a severe beating.’ Then he was put into a local hospital in critical condition where he died after three days. Attorneys for Nichols’ family who watched a video of the arrest on Monday described it as a heinous police beating that lasted three long minutes. Crump said Nichols was tased, pepper-sprayed, and restrained, and Romanucci said he was kicked. “He was defenseless the entire time. He was a human piñata for those police officers. It was an unadulterated, unabashed, nonstop beating of this young boy for three minutes. That is what we saw in that video,” Romanucci said, “not only was it violent, but it was also savage.”
“This is not just a professional failing. This is a failing of basic humanity toward another individual,” Davis said. “This incident was heinous, reckless, and inhumane,” Mulroy said the investigation is not closed yet. Further charges may take place soon.
The Policy Applied After Floyd’s Death
If sure, police changed the policy after the murder of Floyd in 2020. “At a certain point in the sequence of events, it is our view that this, if it was a legal detention, to begin with, it certainly became illegal at a certain point, and it was an unlawful detention,” Mulroy said. Within a month after Floyd’s death, the Memphis Police Department put an amendment in its duty to intervene policy. “Any member who directly observes another member engaged in dangerous or criminal conduct or abuse of a subject shall take reasonable action to intervene,” the policy, prepared on June 9, 2020.
“A member shall immediately report to the Department any violation of policies and regulations or any other improper conduct which is contrary to the policy, order, or directives of the Department.” The policy went on to say “this reporting requirement also applies to allegations of uses of force not yet reported.”
Nichols an innocent boy gets murdered by the police brutally. Although he was impeccable, he but unfortunately not served after being beaten by the officers, which is terrible.
