Surprisingly, a German language film All Quiet on the Western Front has a strong showing at the 2023 Oscars. The Netflix film is tied for the second-most nominated film with The Banshees of Inisherin. It’s up for nine Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Foreign Language Film and Best Cinematography, among others.
The film is based on a 1929 novel of the same name, written from the point of view of a German soldier during World War I. Authored by Erich Maria Remarque, this book has earned its place among the canon’s finest works of military fiction.
