In Santa Rosa, a guy was found dead on Saturday morning after he had seemingly set himself on fire by accident. There was a fire reported to the Santa Rosa police at 12:47 a.m., they said and it was located in the back of a business in the 1200 block of Santa Rosa Ave.
An adult male was found deceased at the scene after the fire department of Santa Rosa put out the blaze. According to the police, a clear picture of what happened was captured on surveillance tape from surrounding businesses.
Authorities believe the man was using a lighter to smoke what they believe to be a controlled substance in the business’s back room. After that, he lay down on the floor as if he were asleep. A few seconds later, his clothing began to char. According to the authorities, he failed to put out the fire.

The Sonoma County coroner’s office is assisting police in identifying the victim, who they believe to be a guy in his 40s or 50s who was previously homeless. Police speculate that the victim may have had some sort of flammable gel residue (perhaps chafing gel) on his hands and/or clothing, which caught fire when he used his lighter.
