On Saturday, the Dallas Zoo began its investigation into the mysterious death of a vulture. A clouded leopard at the same zoo disappeared for several hours after her enclosure looked to have been tampered with just over a week ago.
On Saturday, the dead vulture was discovered within its enclosure at the Dallas Zoo, according to a statement sent to CBS News by the Dallas Police Department.
While authorities have not yet identified a cause, they have stated that they are treating the incident “suspiciously.” There will be a necropsy. There was a lack of specificity.

The zoo had to close and search for hours on January 13 after a clouded leopard named Nova escaped her area. Later that day, she was located unharmed and close to her natural environment.
At the weekend, Dallas police informed CBS News that their investigation revealed that someone had used a “cutting tool” to breach the enclosure surrounding Nova’s home. CBS DFW quotes Harrison Edell, the senior vice president for animal care and conservation at the Dallas Zoo, as saying that zoologists discovered a tear in the mesh of her two-story enclosure.
Police in Dallas also said that when Nova escaped, zookeepers found a “similar cut” in the enclosure’s wire where langur monkeys are kept. No monkeys escaped, but everyone seemed unharmed.
Police stated last Saturday that they could not confirm a link between the two incidents.
