At the end of the first half of Friday night’s nationally televised game between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Los Angeles Lakers, Hall of Fame football player Shannon Sharpe got into an animated discussion with Memphis Grizzlies players Ja Morant, Dillon Brooks and Morant’s father.
The Fox Sports commentator argued with Brooks all throughout the first half and then yelled at Morant during the final possession of the second quarter. Sharpe gestured toward Brooks after the halftime buzzer sounded and Brooks yelled at him.

Halftime Brawl Between the Grizzlies and Sharks Sparked by Shannon Sharpe
Morant approached Sharpe as he sat courtside but was blocked by center Steven Adams. Ja Morant’s father, Tee Morant joined in the discussion before security at the Crypto.com arena intervened. At one point during the altercation, Sharpe said to Tee Morant, “I bet you won’t!” as security personnel attempted to intervene.
Brooks initially declined to comment saying instead, “You can ask him about that.” He’s the blogger or whoever he is and I’ll get to that in a second. After the Lakers came back to beat the Grizzlies 122-121 and end Memphis’ 11-game winning streak, both Morant and Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins refused to talk about the incident.
Halftime, Sharpe explained that he was irritated by the Grizzlies’ banter. Sharpe proclaimed, “I ain’t about that jockeying” implying that he had no interest in engaging in the constant verbal sparring that goes on between the other players.
Check out Shannon Sharpe’s interview with ESPN from before the game, where he explains what went down with the Grizzlies as he was making his way to his seat by reading his tweet about it.

Dillon Brooks was the one who started it. I argued that he couldn’t handle LeBron James’s offensive prowess because of his diminutive stature. The ex-tight end claims Brooks then cursed at him prompting him to respond in kind. Brooks denied this, saying he informed Sharpe that James had missed the shot.
He started coming at me and I said, “You don’t want these problems”. Then, out of nowhere Ja started chatting. He didn’t ask for these issues. The father eventually arrived and it was clear that he was not looking for any trouble. However, I wished for all that they possessed. Do not be duped by these knaves at this time.
After having a chat with arena security in the tunnels, Sharpe and Tee Morant returned to their seats for the second half. At the end of the third quarter, they shared a warm embrace. When asked if fans like Sharpe or anyone who has an altercation with a player should be allowed to return to their seats, Brooks said no.
