It’s finally happened, guys. With the release of Virgin River season 4 on Netflix, we were taken back to the realm of small-town drama set amidst picturesque views. This past season offered a lot to consider. Viewers experienced an emotional roller coaster from Mel’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack’s (Martin Henderson) pregnancy to Hope’s (Annette O’Toole) accident’s aftermath. We were invested, especially when Doc (Tim Matheson) learned he had a grandson and a new doctor was moving to town.
However, now that season 4 has been released for a while, viewers are impatiently anticipating season 5. Is a release date set yet? The trailer Fortunately, we performed some research and discovered that Virgin River is in for much more.
The following information about Virgin River’s fifth season, including its release date, cast, spoilers, and more
When will Virgin River season 5 be available?
The Netflix series was not only given the go-ahead at the same time as season 4, but production has already begun. Martin Henderson shared a snapshot from the set to Instagram, and based on the message; it appears that he is prepared to return to Jack’s world.
“Jack’s back!” he wrote on July 19 from his trailer. “Day 1 of shooting #virginriver Season 5 — feels good to slip back into [Jack’s] boots. Hope y’all enjoy season 4 tomorrow!!!! 😀😀🎉🎉.”
The release date for Virgin River season 5 is still unknown. However, we may anticipate Virgin River season 5 to be published on Netflix in the summer of 2023, given how the show has historically launched new seasons in the summer.
Barbara Pollard, who made Virgin River debut as Melissa Montgomery in season 4, is one of the most recent cast members. Although she is well-known to fans as the CEO of Emerald Lumber, she may be looking for fresh talent now that it has been revealed that she is Nick’s sister. Nick is the man who invested in Jack’s plan to expand his mobile home business. Additionally, given that Nick receives his income from a family company, Melissa might be harboring a grudge toward our favorite bartender.
“Nick and Melissa getting involved in this glamping business may or may not become problematic for Jack,” Alexandra Breckenridge told TVLine of Melissa’s future ties in Virgin River. “I’m not sure what her intention is yet. She doesn’t have good intentions, and I’m not entirely clear if Nick is oblivious to what Melissa does or if he knows. He seems like such a kind guy. I don’t think his wife has a damn clue. She would probably have told the entire town by now.”
Although we’re unsure of who else will travel to Virgin River, we do know that the cast has officially gathered for table reads. Just days before season 4 of the program debuted on Netflix, the show’s official Instagram shared a Zoom photo of the entire cast and staff.
“A snapshot of our amazing cast during a table read for SEASON 5. Yes, you heard that right, folks,” the caption read. “We have now started production on SEASON 5! Also, please meet our lovely new [showrunner] for [season] 5 @patrickseansmith (pictured here.) We can’t WAIT for you to see what we have in store. Don’t forget, though; season 4 is only 2 days away. See you soon!!”
Yes, the fifth season of Virgin River has begun filming. Early August marked the official start of production, and the program continues to provide behind-the-scenes images of upcoming episodes. Martin, Alexandra, and Colin Lawrence can be seen taking a cast selfie in one particular video while standing next to a lake.
“Always trying to get the perfect shot here on Virgin River 😉,” the show captioned the clip on Instagram on August 17.
Viewers also had a glimpse of a dramatic season 5 sequence. Martin, Tim, and director Martin Wood are shown discussing their scene before it is shot on the porch of Virgin River’s local doctor’s office.
“I hope you’re as excited for S5 as we are! ❤️,” the hit drama’s official Instagram wrote on September 1.
Martin gave his Instagram fans a glimpse of the next season’s filming in an October video he posted. The brief footage showed the co-stars filming a number of sequences outside, which is consistent with the Netflix series’ aesthetic.
“A day in the life of a show #virginriver,” he wrote on October 21. “A few BTS moments to tie you over till season 5 makes it’s way to @netflix next year …”
Virgin River’s official completion of production in late November suggests that season 5 may premiere sooner than we had anticipated (cross your fingers!). The thrilling information was posted on the show’s official Instagram account along with behind-the-scenes images.
“That’s a WRAP on Season 5! 😉,” the video was captioned on a November 21 post.
Numerous unanswered questions remain in the wake of the Season 4 finale. Fortunately, Patrick Sean Smith, the show’s new showrunner (who succeeds outgoing showrunner Sue Tenney), is aware of this and is determined not to disappoint viewers in season 5.
“There is a lot going on, and it took me a while to get my head around what [the characters have] all been through, where they’re heading and where I’d like them to go,” he told TVLine in July. “I wanted it to be as seamless as possible.”
So, does Patrick know where the new season will start? Yes, he does. “Season 5 picks up right after season 4,” he continued. “There’s no time jump between four and five.”
Let’s briefly analyze the events of the season finale before moving on to season 5. While Charmaine’s dramatic paternity discovery has us guessing who the birth father of her twins is, Mel and Jack now know he is the father of their baby girl. Speaking about our favorite Virgin River pair, they’ve been engaged for four seasons now! We might witness another wedding soon.
We are aware that there is still much to learn about Hope. We can now see how her brain injury from season 3 will affect her going forward because she needs to employ an assistant (and we’re so glad Lizzie is stepping up to help). Annette O’Toole expressed optimism about the series’ future in a July interview with Screen Rant.
“I don’t know a ton about it because we don’t get the scripts until a couple of weeks before we shoot them,” she told the outlet. “I know Hope is on the road to recovery and she’s going to get better, and I’m hoping that there’s going to be more of her doing her mayoral duties than we’ve seen her do. Politics on a local level like that is really interesting, and we haven’t really seen that side of her.”
Tim Matheson is now aiming for a small wedding ceremony regarding Doc’s relationship with Hope. He would adore seeing the pair rekindle their vows, as he stated to Parade in July.
“I would love to see that. It’s a connection he’s wanted for years and years, and he screwed their relationship up at one point and worked hard to win her back,” he revealed to the site. “Then this calamity occurred, so it would be wonderful if they could complete that part of their lives together. I think that’s another thing too when you’ve been around each other for so many years and gone through so much, it’s like, ‘Why don’t we just be together?’“
We’ll have to keep watching to determine whether these narratives materialize. Back to Mel and Jack, though. How will the nurse be affected by becoming a mother, given that we know the two will have children together? Although Alexandra is unsure of the answer to that question, she is certain that Charmaine’s admission will significantly impact the relationship.
“Being betrayed on such a massive scale has to come with anger and hurt,” she told TVLine. “He invested himself emotionally and mentally and financially in having these babies. He was really committed. It’s going to be hard, I think, for Jack to let that go.”
Speaking of Jack, how will he respond to the present upheaval in the town’s make-believe setting? Martin said viewers would watch Jack change and overcome some obstacles with Mel by his side.
“From what I understand this season, you’re going to also see Mel and Jack get really close,” he told Glamour. “Some of the stuff they’re going to go through is really going to cement their bond. A lot of season 4 was stuff pushing them away, like Jack’s drinking.”
Martin concluded: “I don’t think there was true doubt about the relationship, but some questions and bumps were making their union kind of rocky. Hopefully that big proposal will end that … but watching them mature and deepen their love is going to be nice.”
Additionally, in an exclusive interview with Good Housekeeping, Annette provided more information about how her role would radically shift beginning with season 5. The actress claims that the mayor of Virgin River will concentrate on her recovery as she returns to her regular duties in the village.
“Little by little [Hope’s] getting better,” she told us in November. “The producers want her to return as much as she can to being the Hope that we originally knew. So, I think that’s interesting, but she will be changed. I think it will have changed her for the better.”
Annette did not just stop there while discussing the development of her character. While the actress revealed Hope will still retain the characteristics fans adored about her from prior seasons, she will have a softer temperament as she recovers from her car catastrophe in season 3.
“I think she is going to be more empathetic,” she revealed. “I mean, she’s still who she is … [In] season five, she’s still dealing with [her injury], but less so … By the end of season five, you’re going to see pretty much how she’s going to be.“
Unfortunately, Virgin River season 5 won’t start streaming on Netflix for a time. However, it doesn’t preclude you from watching seasons 1 through 4 in the interim.
