In 1990, he was honored with a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Harris plays a role in a commercial honoring the NFL’s centennial in which he and Terry Bradshaw reenact the Immaculate Reception.

President of the Professional Football Hall of Fame Jim Porter told the WTAE news station, “We have lost one of the finest guys anyone will ever meet as well as a great football player and Hall of Fame ambassador. Franco’s influence extended well beyond the realm of football to touch the lives of countless others.”
In addition, the site reported that the cause of Franco’s death was not immediately known. Dok Franco’s son informed the Associated Press that his dad had passed away “overnight,” though he did not specify what had caused his death.

The greatest play of Franco’s career came in 1972 when the Steelers playoff game versus the Raiders has decided thanks to his decision to keep going after his teammates stopped. The “immaculate reception” marked the Steelers’ first playoff triumph in four decades. From 1972 until 1983, Franco was a member of the Steelers roster.

Franco’s football career skyrocketed after the amazing play, and he went on to play for 12 seasons (11 with the Pittsburgh Steelers and 2 with the Seattle Seahawks) before calling it quits. After hanging up his cleats, Franco went into the baking business and became the chairman of Pittsburgh Promise, an organization that offers college scholarships to students attending public schools in Pittsburgh.
Dana Dokmanovich and their son Dok are Harris’s only living relatives.

Franco “Dok” Harris, Harris’s son, ran for mayor of Pittsburgh as a third-party candidate in 2009 and came in second with 25 percent of the vote. Pete Harris, Harris’ younger brother, was a Penn State football player as well before his untimely death from a heart attack on August 15, 2006.
On the 20th of December, 2022 at the age of 72 Harris passed away in his home in Sewickley, Pennsylvania. Three days before the 50th anniversary of the “Immaculate Reception,” he passed away. Harris’s death was unexpected because he had been using social media often in the days leading up to it and had just finished giving a talk to guests at the Heinz History Center.
