Mark Adam’s Coaching Profession
Adams played basketball at South Plains College before transferring to Texas Tech, where he worked as a student assistant under head coach Gerald Myers. Adams got his first coaching job after graduating from Texas Tech in 1979. He spent two years at Clarendon College, where his teams went 46-16 during that time.
He coached the Wayland Baptist Pioneers from 1983 to 1987, compiling an overall record of 100-39 and taking the team all the way to the NAIA championship game in 1985. Adams then became the head coach at West Texas A&M, where he had a 108-40 record in two seasons and led the Buffaloes to the NCAA Division II tournament both times.
Adams took the head coaching post at Texas-Pan American in 1992 and lasted there for five seasons, finishing with a 44-90 record.

Coach Mark Adams was born to Marilyn and Tom Adams on May 14, 1956, in Brownfield, Texas. Coach Mark has a twin brother, Matt, and a sister, Angela.
Tom Adams’s father was a football player at Texas Tech and Hardin Simmons; he was inducted into Hardin Simmons’ Athletic Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in both boxing and football; and he was a member of the 1949 International Boxing Team, which won five Golden Globe state titles. After having children, he turned to a farm.
His identical twin brother Matt Adams (born Mattison Lee Adams) was a standout football and basketball player at Brownfield High and then at Texas Tech. Matt Adams also excelled in boxing, winning two regional championships in Lubbock and finishing as the state’s runner-up in 1978.
While also serving on the boards of directors for the Fibertex/Lonestar Ag gins and the Terry County Farm Bureau, he was the owner of the Missouri Mavericks and the Lubbock Cotton Kings of the National Hockey League.
