It would appear that the fantasy drama Fate: The Winx Saga Season 3 has met with some unlucky outcomes… A third season of the Netflix original series will not be produced, the streaming service confirmed on November 1.
Fate: The Winx Saga, which was inspired by the long-running and critically acclaimed Nickelodeon animated series The Winx Club (which aired for eight seasons and had more than 200 episodes), was canceled just a few months after its second season premiered, despite quickly becoming Netflix’s most popular original series.
So, why did Netflix cancel Bloom and her fairy pals’ adventures? And then in season 3, what would have happened?
Read on to learn the details behind the termination of Fate: The Winx Saga and what it means for the future of Winx Club and its followers’ expectations of enchanted tales.

Why was Fate: The Winx Saga Season 3 Canceled?
Brian Young, a former writer for The Vampire Diaries and currently the showrunner for Fate: The Winx Saga, made the official announcement that the show would be ending on November 1, 2022.
In an Instagram post, he said, “So this is not fun news to report, but Netflix has decided not to press through with season three of Fate: The Winx Saga. Knowing how much this season meant to so many of you makes my decision that much more difficult.
A silver lining, but a sad one, nonetheless. I’m very thrilled we were able to tell the tales we did, and I’m proud of everyone who contributed to the show. The rest of the cast members followed his lead and announced their departure via social media shortly after his announcement. Elisha Applebaum, who played the mind fairy Musa, announced on her Instagram Story that the show Fate would not be returning for a third season.
I’d like to give a heartfelt shout-out to everyone from pre-production to post-production who helped make Fate: The Winx Saga a reality. In the words of Musa, “I am so thankful to have been trusted with a character as fun as Musa and to have been allowed to share your screens at home with a beautiful cast, who I am so happy to call my fairy family.
I’ve learned so much from this show, and I couldn’t have asked for a greater experience over the past four years. We appreciate the time spent remembering. Please know how much we appreciate the devoted audience who has followed the show’s run with such enthusiasm. Please continue to be enchanted.
Netflix has not provided an official explanation for the cancellation of Fate, but as reported by Variety, some producers are of the opinion that high viewership (which Fate most certainly had) is no guarantee that Netflix will renew the show.
Despite The Sandman’s critical and rating success, creator Neil Gaiman tweeted in August that he was pessimistic about the show returning for a second season.
Is there going to be a movie or spinoff based on Fate: The Winx Saga Season 3?
Despite season two ending on something of a cliffhanger with fates to be resolved and mysteries left unsolved, there are currently no plans for a return of Netflix’s Fate: The Winx Saga, either as a new season or a spin-off movie.
In the final episode, fire fairy Bloom (Abigail Cowan) bid a tearful farewell to her boyfriend Sky (Danny Griffin) before permanently closing the Realm of Darkness from within. And then, in a shocking turn of events, she learned that her mother was also alive and imprisoned in the realm.
A possible third season was foreshadowed by showrunner Brian Young to Entertainment Weekly before the show was canceled, saying, “We knew pretty early on that we wanted Bloom to come face to face with her mom.” We wanted to satisfy some of the viewers’ curiosities by providing answers, while also leaving them with plenty of stories left to explore in Fate: The Winx Saga Season 3.
For season three, he continued, “the goal is to answer ‘what is the Realm of Darkness?'” What role do Bloom and her mother play? How it fits into our larger storyline that we hinted at in Season 2.”

Because of the show’s discontinuation, Young’s intentions have been effectively derailed. The performers, who are all in their twenties but playing teenagers, may have aged too much by the time Netflix decides to bring the series back at a later date.
On the bright side, not all is lost for the Winx Saga. Iginio Straffi, the man behind the Fate franchise, broke the news on Instagram two days after Netflix did, saying that the streaming service’s choice was “for a deeper cause.”
