Odell Beckham Jr.’s lawyer issues Statement Regarding Airplane Incident
Odell Beckham Jr. a free-agent receiver seems to find a way to be in the headlines even when he’s not trying to. On a Sunday morning, he probably wasn’t aiming to grab headlines. Well, he ultimately did. The flight from Miami to Los Angeles had to land without him because he allegedly refused to put on his seat belt. The Miami-Dade Police Department has made a statement regarding the incident.
Daniel Davilier, Beckham’s agent has released a statement on his client’s behalf. According to the report, Odell Beckham Jr. checked in for his flight to Miami this morning without incident. There was a holdup between the end of boarding and takeoff. Like he always does on long flights, Mr. Beckham dozed off with his blanket over his head. Because he had not fastened his seatbelt when asked the flight attendants woke him up and informed him that the plane had returned to the terminal.
He said he was dozing off and would fasten his seatbelt later. It was already too late and either he or everyone else on board would have to disembark. The overzealous flight attendant wouldn’t let Mr. Beckham fasten his seatbelt and continue the flight, so she insisted on removing everyone from the plane. Mr. Beckham was not disruptive or combative at any time. He agreed to wear a seatbelt, but the flight attendant insisted on showing proof that he had the authority to kick Mr. Beckham off the plane.
The airline then forwarded Mr. Beckham’s bags to Los Angeles, without him. What happened wasn’t necessary. It’s ridiculous that being kicked off a flight because you decided to get some shut-eye is actually a real possibility. They could have woken him up when the plane got back to the terminal and asked him to fasten his seatbelt.
Currently, Beckham is not being investigated for anything. Given the negative connotation of the airline’s version. However, he is within his rights to offer his perspective on the events. It all started on an American Airlines flight. If he starts his free agent tour later this week, Delta is a strong contender to be his carrier of choice.
