Like us, you probably watched the entire first season of Firefly Lane the moment it became available on Netflix, and you were left with a huge question after the series finale. We need to know when Firefly Lane Season 2 will begin.
There is more than enough material in Kristin Hannah’s best-selling novel and its sequel to fill more than two seasons, but Netflix will probably only utilize a fraction of it. The streaming service made the decision to end the series after the Season 2 official today. Have questions? We have explanations. Now then, let’s get this show on the road.
Will There be Firefly Lane Season 2?
Yes! On May 26, 2021, Netflix made the renewal announcement via Zoom video. The show’s cliffhanger finale definitely leaves room for more episodes, and we need to find out if Tully’s (Katherine Heigl) and Kate’s (Sarah Chalke) thirty-year friendship can be restored. We also must not overlook Johnny (Ben Lawson) and his time spent serving in Iraq.
According to Chalke’s video, the team still doesn’t know everything they need to know, but they promise it will be worth the wait. “And we pledge to address each and every one of your concerns.” Watch the complete season 2 renewal announcement for Firefly Lane down below.
Firefly Lane Season 2 Plotline
What could have broken up Tully and Kate’s tight-knit 30-year friendship will be revealed in season 2? Before that, however, Kate must deal with the emotional fallout of Johnny’s disastrous tour to Iraq, while Tully must start her career over from scratch after being sued for leaving her talk show.
This motivates her to investigate her background, which includes going against the wishes of her reclusive hippy mother, Cloud, in order to track down the father she never knew (Beau Garrett). As Kate Tully’s career grows as she spars (and flirts!) with arrogant sportscaster Danny Diaz, we witness her and Johnny fall in love for the first time in the 1980s, causing more than a little drama in the newsroom where they both work (Ignacio Serricchio).

If they could only put their differences aside for five minutes, she might have finally met her equal. Lives the 1970s, Cloud goes to jail for distributing drugs, and Tully moves in with her grandmother, distant from Firefly Lane, making it difficult for Kate and Tully to maintain their friendship. Will the girls’ shared understanding that they need each other while they navigate the chaos of high school years apart hold true over time?
When Was Firefly Lane Season 2 Filmed?
The second season of Firefly Lane was shot in Vancouver beginning in August 2021 and wrapping up in the fall. Katherine Heigl’s birthday was in November, and we all know she celebrated on set. On February 1st, the show came back from its winter break. Production ended in late April 2022.
Firefly Lane Season 2 Characters
Chris McNally (Mr. Waverly)
It has been reported by Deadline that McNally will be playing Mr. Waverly, a charismatic English teacher who challenges Kate and Tully to grow beyond their comfort zones. Moreover, he has been cast in the Paramount+ series Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies.
He’ll also portray Mr. Daniels, a teacher who seems young and hip but is actually a horrible guy who comes on too strong to a 16-year-old girl he has a crush on and then throws her under the bus to protect himself. When Calls the Heart stars Chris McNally, who plays bar owner and businessman Lucas Bouchard on the Hallmark Channel.
Ignacio Serricchio (Danny Diaz)
Tully’s new love interest, the arrogant sportscaster/reporter Danny (Ignacio Serricchio), enters the cast. Danny, who is both attractive and aggressive, is constantly sparring with Tully, yet he is actually a sensitive and passionate soul below all that arrogance. Among Serricchio’s prior work are General Hospital, Bones, and the Lost in Space remake on Netflix.
Greg Germann
Greg Germann has been cast as Benedict Binswanger, a recurring character. Binswanger, an heir to a prosperous logging empire, gambles his commercial success by running for governor in the 1980s. His family’s honor and his own are at stake, despite his outward assurance. He is adamant that the family’s reputation for virtue remains intact and that no one ever learns about the Binswanger’s dark past.
Most recently, Germann concluded his role as Dr. Tom Koracick on Grey’s Anatomy, a role he played for multiple seasons. Among his prior works are Ned & Stacey, Chasing Life, and Once Upon a Time.
India de Beaufort
In the 1980s, India de Beaufort joins Firefly Lane as Charlotte, a hesitant journalist hopeful with a crush on Johnny Ryan. As time passes, she develops into a self-assured, internationally-known journalist who is not afraid to go after her goals. The British singer-actress appeared frequently on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. She has guest starred on the television shows Chuck, Modern Family, and Veep.
Jolene Purdy
Jolene Purdy’s character, talent agent Justine Jordan, is bubbly and organized. Tully wants Jordan to be on her side since she is an up-and-comer who is direct yet positive.
