What is the Plot of R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned?
The underrated RIPD film starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges has a surprise prequel called RIPD 2: Rise of the Damned. Based on a Dark Horse comic book series, the film follows Reynolds (a modern-day cop) and Bridges (a Western sheriff) as they team up in the afterlife to hunt down “Dados”.
The idea of making a prequel with a brand-new cast that has nothing to do with the original film is intriguing, especially given how few people remember the original. Set in the American West in 1876, RIPD 2: Rise of the Damned is a “spiritual sequel” to the original film. After a shootout with a notorious outlaw gang, Sheriff Roy Pulsipher (Jeffrey Donovan) unexpectedly finds himself dead.
Fortunately, the Rest in Peace Department offers him a second chance at life on Earth. But when a gateway to hell is opened in the old mining town of Red Creek, threatening not only locals. But all of humanity itself avenging his own murder may have to take a back seat to save the world.
Roy realizes he can’t go back to Earth to be with his daughter at the end of RIPD 2: Rise of the Damned. He can try to reach out to his daughter all he wants, but she will be completely oblivious to his words. She also demonstrates to him that they have switched bodies. They are currently residing in the bodies of two black bounty hunters, which will make their mission more challenging. In response to hearing that his daughter’s fiance has been abducted, Roy sets out to rescue him.
