When Elon Musk took over Twitter he gave his staff an ultimatum: work in a “very hardcore” environment or find another job. Employees are fast learning what it’s like to work with Musk a tech entrepreneur as the demand came after a public spat between Musk and the staff. Musk has fired employees who have challenged him and laid off thousands of staff in the span of three weeks.
Twitter employees have previously filed a lawsuit against Musk, alleging that the business violated federal and California law by cutting 3,700 jobs without providing adequate notice. Large firms are required by federal law to give 60 days’ notice before implementing a programme of mass layoffs.
Musk is known for being an overbearing employer who expects his employees to put in long hours. Bloomberg reports that he informed Twitter staff to plan on putting in 80-hour weeks. Musk, who is also the CEO of Tesla and Space X, reportedly instructed employees earlier this year to get back to work or look for other employment.
Musk has been accused of “rage-firing” employees at Tesla, a charge he has consistently refuted. According to a New York Times investigation, Space X fired the individuals responsible for writing and distributing the letter denouncing Musk.

If you don’t want to be let go you Better start doing a “Hardcore” Job
Workers at Twitter have until Thursday to pick if they would go “hardcore” on the platform or resign with severance.
Musk claimed that in order to create “a breakthrough Twitter 2.0,” workers “would need to be incredibly hardcore” and put in lengthy, focused shifts. He continued by saying that the majority of Twitter’s staff will consist of engineers who produce “excellent code.”
Musk emailed his staff on Wednesday, asking whether they wanted to join the “new Twitter” and directing them to a website where they could respond “yes” by 5 p.m. EST on Thursday. The Associated Press said that those who did not respond by the deadline would receive three months of severance pay.
Employees who have been critical of Musk are now out of a Job
On Monday, Musk and a Twitter employee had an online altercation and Musk ultimately dismissed the employee in front of the entire company.
Musk tweeted on Sunday that Twitter was “extremely sluggish in many places” due to inadequately batched remote procedure calls, which led to his dismissal.
Developer Eric Frohnhoefer remarked, “This is wrong,” and then they had a lengthy back-and-forth with Musk. Musk tweeted Monday that Frohnhoefer had been “fired,” but afterwards erased the message.
A number of employees who have publicly or privately criticised Musk have reportedly been terminated as a result.
On Tuesday, in response to a tweet reporting the firings, Musk wrote, “I’m truly sorry that I had to let these brilliant minds go. Their massive skill set will undoubtedly be put to excellent use somewhere.”
Reductions in the number of employees on a contract, as well as widespread layoffs
Mass layoffs affecting almost half of its staff of over 7,500 full-time employees led to the dismissals. Since the layoffs, it has been claimed that several of the company’s top privacy and security executives have left their positions.
The FTC has been “watching recent developments at Twitter with significant concern,” as reported by the Associated Press.
Groups concerned that Twitter’s ability to monitor material would suffer as a result of widespread layoffs have urged companies to suspend advertising on the site due to a rise in hate speech.
According to The Associated Press, Musk has lately eliminated content moderation contractors as he continues to reduce the size of the company’s personnel. It’s yet unknown how many temporary positions have been lost.
Elimination of Telecommuting
Musk reportedly ended Twitter’s remote-work policy last week and told employees they must be present in the office for at least 40 hours per week.
The future is “arduous and will demand rigorous work to achieve,” Musk wrote in a memo to staff, thus “remote work is no longer allowed.”
Former Twitter CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey declared in May 2020 that remote employment for his company would be permitted permanently. From now on, Musk will evaluate requests for remote work on an individual basis.
