For ten years, we’ve had Chicago Fire to entertain us. Chicago PD Season 11 of the firefighting drama is expected to feature some of the show’s most riveting storylines yet.
However as Season 11 continues to be made, the question of the show’s future arises. Since Chicago Fire has not been renewed for a second season will it be canceled after this one?
Okay, here’s what we do know about Fire’s potential in the future.
Chicago PD Season 11: Is This Show Renewed for New Season?
To begin, the 2020 announcement by NBC of a multi-year renewal is the last of its kind. This extension felt like a huge vote of confidence from the network, given that the show was already in its ninth season.
NBC Entertainment Chairman Paul Telegdy recently stated to Deadline:
“Dick Wolf has proven time and time again that he makes shows audiences love, [and] we are delighted, excited and proud that as part of this epic deal with Wolf Entertainment, NBC’s loyal audience will know that their favorite shows have a certain future for the next three years.”
As both Chicago PD and Chicago Med have received similar multi-year extensions from NBC and Wolf Entertainment, this deal follows a pattern. Ratings are the most important measure of a show’s success and Chicago Fire’s have remained consistently high through the final stretch of its tenth season.
The season 10 finale beat out Survivor and The Flash, two other Wednesday shows, for the highest ratings and viewership. Given how much effort has been made to keep all three One Chicago shows in the spotlight, it’s clear that Chicago Fire is still a rating juggernaut for NBC.

Additionally, there is a stellar track record of previous Wolf Productions offerings. After two decades, the popular police drama Law and Order returned and its spinoff, Law and Order: SVU, became the longest-running live-action series in history. If ratings are any indication (and they are), Chicago Fire will be on for very some time. It’s all going to be a part of the adventure and season 11 is simply going to be another part of it.
Is Chicago PD Season 11 Canceled?
Since it is unknown what will happen to the franchise after 2023, it is possible that one of the series will end that year.
It’s worth noting that New Amsterdam and This Is Us, two other NBC shows that were renewed for three seasons, were also canceled after their final episodes aired.
Will Chicago’s other emergency services (fire, med and police) eventually follow suit? It’s not necessary at all. It was always planned for This Is Us to finish beyond the initial three-season run and the ratings for the Chicago shows are higher than those for New Amsterdam. Indeed, NBC’s three Chicago series are the network’s most-watched scripted offerings. Nielsen reports that on average, 7.1 million people watch “Fire,” whereas 6.8 million people watch “Med,” and 5.8 million people watch “PD.” After This Is Us went off the air, these three shows were the most watched on television overall. This bodes well for their renewal prospects for the next year.

Is There a Date Set for the Next Season of the Chicago Shows?
The Chicago shows will return to their regular times in the upcoming fall of 2022. On Wednesday nights at 8pm, you may catch all three of them, including Med. ET, with Fire airing at 9 p.m. and PD at 10 p.m.
NBC has not yet announced an official return date. The most likely premiere date for Season 11 of Chicago Fire, Season 8 of Chicago Med and Season 10 of Chicago PD is Wednesday, September 21 based on the premiere dates from the previous year.
What You Need to Know About Season 10 of “Chicago PD”
Chicago P.D.’s Jesse Lee Soffer will leave the force in season 10’s first half. Tracy Spiridakos, who portrays Upton, also verified the news by thanking fans, and she also sent a heartfelt message for her on-screen husband. P.D.’s farewell to him has not been shown but without him, Season 10 will be very different.
After making his debut as Officer Dante Torres in Season 9, Benjamin Levy Aguilar has been added to the roster as a series regular. Pictures taken behind the scenes by Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos show that he will appear in a few scenes with Halstead and Upton early on.
Chicago P.D., like Chicago Fire, has reached the end of its three-season renewal and is not currently certain of a Season 11.
