Voice Actors Chris Tergliafera and Anairis Quiñones Took To Twitter to Expose “Jujutsu Kaisen 0’s” Unfair Compensation
Chris Tergliafera who voices Kiyotaka Ichiji and Anairis Quiñones voicing Rika Orimoto has shared their experience working in “Jujutsu Kaisen 0”. They expressed their grudges after only getting paid $150 for their roles in the hit film. They weren’t the first to come out about the unfair wages of the “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” movie. Early in 2022, Tara Jayne Sands playing the characters of Momo Nishimiya and Utahime Iori in “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” also exposed the franchise for offering extremely low payments to their artists.
The actor didn’t hold back saying that it was an unsuccessful attempt to seek higher wages, but if such things continue, the industry needs to reform. Anime production companies must make changes in the system to pay fair wages to the actor.
As a matter of fact, Chris and Anairis were paid only $150 dollars each for their roles which made millions for the anime. These numbers were shocking since “Jujutsu Kaisen” is such a huge franchise and they’re giving out unexpectedly low payments are beyond apprehension for fans.
Crunchyroll was questioned when a user named Bingy tweeted, “this Crunchyroll mob psycho dub situation just reminds me that jjk0 made 30 million dollars in the USA and the dub actors for that were paid like $300 each for their roles. these companies are literally cartoonishly evil”
To that, Chris replied, “*Ahem!* $150, total”.
And Anairis added, “I was paid $150 total. No residuals or anything past that”.
Fans were enraged after the truth was out. Adding to fuel was when Chris pointed out how his name was misspelled in the post-credit scenes of the “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” film. Moreover, Chris clarified that he is not angry with the director and recording studio because they know their work well but it’s the main people in Crunchyroll who are making such unjust decisions. Voice Actors Share Experience with Voice Acting Low Payments Outside of “Jujutsu Kaisen 0”
Well, it is not only “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” who is openly practicing giving out incredibly low payments. The practice of offering minimum wages to voice actors is predominant in the entire industry. Marin M. Miller shared how “Fullmetal Alchemist” paid just $35 USD for English dubs back in 2077.
And the same rates still exist in 2022 as well. In fact, many newcomers are victims of such a situation. Even translators are not safe and Katrina Leonoudakis who worked as a translator for the popular Funimation also hopped in to share her experience.
She tweeted, “I booked my first role in anime because I was a fan of Fullmetal Alchemist. I got paid $35 for that work. It took massive public shaming after a merger for Crunchyroll to raise that minimum to $44. Their translators get $90 PER EPISODE last I heard. Translating 450 lines for $90?”
The whole system and operations are unreasonable and these voice artists can barely make living off it. Translation can take up to 8 hours minimum and such low rates are unacceptable. You can also read about Jujutsu Kaisen
