American actress and talk show host Ricki Pamela Lake was born on September 21, 1968. She became famous for her performance as Tracy Turnblad in the 1988 film Hairspray for which she was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead.
Her talk show Ricki Lake aired internationally from September 1993 to May 2004 and brought her even more fame. Lake, then 24 years old was the youngest person to ever host a nationally syndicated talk programme when “Lake Effect” premiered.
Lake launched her second talk show, The Ricki Lake Show in late 2012. It only lasted one season before being terminated in 2013 but it earned Lake her first Daytime Emmy.

The show featured controversial discussions with notable guests and live audience participation. Unlike most of her contemporaries, her show catered to a younger demographic than the 25+ demographic that advertisers were targeting.

The show’s run was dominated by discussions of deeply personal topics such as racism and prejudice (even within their own race and gender), parenting (including single mothers who are accused of having a lack of experience taking care of children), romantic relationships (both married and non-marital) and LGBT issues (such as discrimination, same-s*x couples who want to have children or straight people attracted to a person who is LGBT or the other way around) (like money, looking for work or being on welfare).
At other times, she hosted lighter shows in which she granted viewers’ requests or hosted contests featuring female impersonators, beauticians or individuals who want to prove to others that they actually have talent.

Like many other talk shows, the producers brainstormed to come up with a show title or topic before approaching potential guests. Promos for upcoming shows would broadcast during currently airing episodes.
The purpose of this effort was to find people who might be able to relate to the proposed theme. A production assistant would sort through the hotline messages and get in touch with the most potential leads. They would ask prospective visitors questions about themselves and their circumstances.

The Oprah Winfrey Show beat all the other nominees for the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host in 1994. The show has also won numerous other honours, such as the Gracie Allen Award and PRISM Certificates and Commendations.

The American actress Ricki Lake hosts a daytime tabloid talk programme called Ricki Lake. First airing on September 13, 1993, the series finished its original run on May 21, 2004, with repeats running through the summer until August 27, 2004. The Ricki Lake Show Production
Producers Garth Ancier and Gail Steinberg first helmed the show. In 2002, during the ninth season, Michael Rourke was promoted to executive producer and Michelle Mazur, a producer on the programme in the 1990s, was promoted to co-executive producer for the upcoming tenth season.
John Benitez composed the score’s underlying melody. The Garth Ancier Company was responsible for production, and Columbia Pictures Television Distribution, Columbia TriStar Television Distribution, Columbia TriStar Domestic Television and Sony Pictures Television handled distribution from 1993 to 1995, 1995 to 2001, and 2001 to 2002, respectively (2002–2004).
The series premiered in the UK on October 1, 1994, on Channel 4 and ran until 2001.
