According to reports, rock legend Jerry Lee Lewis is still alive and well despite past allegations to the contrary. Today, a spokesman for Lewis, who is still alive and well at age 87, released a statement disputing a TMZ article claiming his death. The news outlet TMZ has released an official statement of regret for the article.
Lewis had a stroke in 2019, but a year later he was feeling confident enough in his recovery to unveil a gospel record. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame earlier this year, but he reportedly skipped” the ceremony on the advice of his doctors. An earlier this year documentary about him Trouble In Mind” directed by Ethan Coen also came out. Greater Jerry Lee Lewis material than you could expect in 2022!
With groundbreaking successes like “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On” and “Great Balls of Fire,” Lewis essentially helped create the sound of mainstream rock music in the 1950s. The fact that he had married Myra Gale Brown, his 13-year-old second cousin once removed, severely ruined his career toward the end of the decade.
After a dry spell in the 1960s owing to the scandal’s fallout, Lewis made a comeback as a country music superstar with classics like “Would You Take Another Chance on Me.” Despite the aforementioned scandals, Elvis is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of rock & roll at this point in time and has been awarded a number of Grammys, including a Lifetime Achievement Award and induction into the Academy’s Hall Of Fame.
Lee’s representative Zach Farnum issued a statement assuring fans that Lee is “alive” and living in Memphis, claiming that “an anonymous tip” had misled TMZ.
