The Last Of Us Trailer

On Monday, HBO published the first official trailer for their upcoming series “The Last of Us,” an adaptation of the iconic post-apocalyptic computer game of the same name. In 2023, the first episode will air.

In “The Last of Us,” Pedro Pascal (of “The Mandalorian”) plays Joel, a hardened survivor who travels through the United States devastated by a fatal sickness caused by the cordyceps fungus, just as he does in the PlayStation video game. The young girl he meets along the journey, Ellie (Bella Ramsey of “Game of Thrones“), is essential in his quest to discover a cure for the zombie-like virus that has ravaged humanity.

On September 26th, also known as Outbreak Day in “The Last of Us” fandom, the trailer premiered. In the first game, the cordyceps fungal outbreak in the United States started on September 26. Set to Hank Williams’s “Alone and Forsaken,” the trailer for “The Last of Us” features iconic scenes from the video game, including Joel and Ellie escaping a quarantine zone, two collapsing skyscrapers they must traverse, Ellie riding a merry-go-round with her childhood friend Riley, and Joel running with his daughter Sarah at the start of the pandemic.

The cordyceps fungus infects its victims, transforming them into grotesque, shambling monsters known as clickers. Mushroom-like spores grow out of their faces, and they develop a ravenous appetite for human flesh. You can hear the clickers’ terrifying type of echolocation, which they employ because they can’t sight, in the little teaser that HBO released this morning.
