What Did Jeffrey Dahmer Do For a Living?
The fact that Jeffrey Dahmer worked for the better part of his adult spare time is a shock to viewers. In addition, he worked as a mixer at the Milwaukee Ambrosia Chocolate Factory towards the end of his killing spree and until his arrest. Interestingly, after two years of looking for work, Jeffrey found employment as a mixer in January 1985. He was living with his grandmother Catherine in West Allis, Wisconsin, and she urged him to look for work because she was the only person he cared about.
Remarkably, Jeffrey was able to carry out his horrible actions mostly unhindered because of the schedule of his job, which kept him free from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. He worked six nights a week, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., while the serial killer was given Saturdays off. He allegedly took time off whenever Jeffrey needed time to work on a body or erase the evidence.

When Jeffrey was 18, he committed his first murder, and his parents promptly sent him off to Ohio State University to study business. However, by the end of the year, he had dropped out due to his refusal to learn and heavy drinking. After enlisting in the U.S. Army in January 1979, Jeffrey served as a combat medic in Baumholder, West Germany. However, his drinking problem resurfaced, and the army eventually saw that he was unable to do and discharged him with honor in March 1981.
After getting out of the service, Jeffrey moved to Miami and got a short-term job in a delicatessen. He was staying at a hotel and ran out of money, so he went back to Ohio to live with his dad and stepmom. Jeffrey’s dad hoped the young man’s grandma would be a good role model, concerned about his son’s prospects. As a result, in December of 1981, he was transferred to live with his grandmother, and by early 1982, the serial killer was working as a phlebotomist at the Milwaukee Blood Plasma Center.
However, Jeffrey only lasted 10 months at this employment before being let go, at which point he chose to take a two-year break from the workforce. Jeffrey’s grandmother persisted in nudging him toward work, and in January 1985 he accepted a position as a Mixer at the Milwaukee Ambrosia Chocolate Factory.
