Mark Hapka plays Depp in “Hot Take,” a MarVista Entertainment original series available on a streaming service. The new movie “Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial” will premiere exclusively on the free streaming site Tubi, focusing on the contentious defamation case between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.

Mark Hapka (“Parallels,” “Days of Our Lives”) and Megan Davis (“Alone in the Dark”) star as Depp and Heard, respectively. The debut will air on Fox’s Tubi on September 30. Along with Hapka and Davis, Melissa Marty (“Station 19”) will play Depp’s attorney, Camille Vasquez and Mary Carrig (“Law & Order True Crime”) will play Heard’s attorney Elaine Bredehoft.

The two-month defamation trial between  Johnny Depp and Amber Heard that ended on June 1 with a jury finding that Heard had defamed Depp by alluding to domestic violence allegations against him in a December 2018 op-ed piece is dramatized in “Hot Take,” which follows the tumultuous relationship between  Johnny Depp and Amber Heard in and out of court. Depp’s attorney’s disparaging statement against Heard was also found to be actionable by the jury.

Tubi and MarVista rushed production “to capture a timely view on a topic that became part of the cultural zeitgeist, painting a distinct vision of what millions witnessed play out in the headlines over the summer,” said Adam Lewinson, Tubi’s chief content officer.
