Ubisoft, the French video game publisher, showcased today a wide range of games from both their future and present catalogs. Games like Mario + Rabbids and Bones and A Skull were part of Ubisoft’s Forward 2022 event initiative, as were several items for The Division series, hints of cooperation with Netflix, and a plethora of Assassin’s Creed games. Was it Assassin’s Creed that I mentioned? For the simple reason that holy cow, there’s a lot of it.
All of the show is available for your viewing pleasure, but these were the highlights.
Play Mario + Rabbids
On October 20 this year, Nintendo Switch owners will be able to enjoy a colorful mashup of Mario and the Rabbids. Ubisoft began its presentation by showing off some Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope gameplay. The video displayed unusual combat against a worm while riding a fast train over a verdant landscape. There are some excellent strategic choices with entertaining characters like Mario and his pals (and even the Rabbids!).
Bones and A Skull
It seems like forever (because it has) but more of Ubisoft’s upcoming pirate sim Skull & Bones has been revealed. It has strong echoes of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, which is certainly not harmful. Pirate warfare, plundering and outfitting your ship to maximize profit. If you can’t wait to get your hands on early access, Ubisoft has announced its “Insider Program” for the game. The game will support crossplay, and thank goodness, you may disable PVP if you’d prefer a less frenetic pirate adventure.
Riders’ Republic
Riders’ Republic, the adventurous BMX, skating, snowboarding, and other board sports game, was able to debut the “Freestylin” upgrade for Season 4. Scheduled for release on September 14th, it will allow you to grind on rails instead of using the stairs, jump over parked cars, and perform other skatepark stunts. Visiting the game’s website right now will cost you nothing. Season pass holders from the first year will have access to the BMX expansion a little bit sooner.
Affiliated With Netflix
Ubisoft is bringing three forthcoming titles from established franchises to Netflix exclusively. Netflix is known for hosting transphobic, washed-up comedians. Vice President of Netflix’s gaming project Mike Verdu has announced that the sequel to Valiant Hearts and a new installment of Mighty Quest are on the way in the new year. There has also been talking of a new Assassin’s Creed game and TV program; however, information on either has been extremely scarce.
Assassin’s Creed: Infinity
Assassin’s Creed Infinity has been the subject of much conjecture, but we know it is a hub for all other Assassin’s Creed games. Besides fulfilling your air conditioning needs, this is pretty much it. Maybe it will be like Halo: The Master Chief Collection, but with an eye toward the future, as Kotaku staff writer Levi Winslow suggests, as it will house future titles in the series.
Ubisoft Plus, Try It Free
Beginning now through October 10th, anyone wondering about Ubisoft’s PC and streaming platform adaptation of Game Pass, which grants access to the complete Assassin’s Creed series and many of its other titles, can sign up for a free trial.
