At the D23 Expo on Saturday, a first look at the much-anticipated Disney+ show “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” was shown.
“Percy Jackson” is based on Rick Riordan’s popular young-adult fantasy book series, which has five books that came out between 2005 and 2009. The project got the go-ahead in January. The series has already been made into two movies, 2010 and 2013, with Logan Lerman as the main character. The entertainment movies made a total of $425 million around the world.
The new series is about a 12-year-old boy named Percy Jackson, who is played by “Adam Project” star Walker Scobell. He finds out he is the son of the Greek god Poseidon and starts training to become a hero at Camp Half-Blood, a special training camp for demigods.
Along with Scobell, Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood, two of Percy’s best friends, are played by Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri, respectively. In the series, Virginia Kull plays Percy’s mom Sally, Glynn Turman is the mythical centaur Chiron, Jason Mantzoukas is the Greek god of wine Dionysus, Megan Mullally is the Fury Alecto, Timm Sharp is Percy’s stepfather Gabe, Dior Goodjohn is Clarisse, daughter of the Greek god Ares, and Charlie Bushnell is Luke, son of the god Hermes. In June of this year, filming for the show began in Vancouver.
Some of the best-selling books of all time are in the “Percy Jackson” series. Over 180 million copies of these books have been sold worldwide. Its popularity led to the publication of two follow-up series, “The Heroes of Olympus” and “The Trials of Apollo,” between 2010 and 2020. Riordan and the writer Mark Oshiro are also working on a book that comes after the first one.
Disney’s 20th Television is in charge of making the TV show. Riordan and Jon Steinberg wrote the pilot for the series together, and James Bobin is in order of the show. Dan Shotz, Bert Salke, Monica Owusu-Breen, Jim Rowe, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, and Riordan’s wife, Rebecca Riordan, these three people are the show’s executive producers.
