The queen can be seen beaming for the camera while dressed in a plaid skirt, grey cardigan, and light blue button-down. The symbolic event occurred at the Queen’s Highland hideaway of Balmoral because she was medically unfit to travel back to London.
Buckingham Palace released a statement on Monday reading, “The queen received in audience the right honorable Elizabeth Truss MP today and requested her to form a new administration.”
The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon,” read the notice posted on the gates of Buckingham Palace on Thursday evening. The King and Queen Consort will remain in Balmoral before returning to London.
After his mother’s death on Thursday, Charles, 73, became monarch immediately, and tributes poured in from all over the world.
Throughout the 10 days of mourning, church bells will toll mutedly at Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and Windsor Castle, among other locations, and Union flags will fly at half-staff. The UK Parliament will begin two days of special tributes, with Ms. Truss and other senior ministers attending a public remembrance service at St. Paul’s.
