UK’s prime minister election’s result is declared and former foreign secretary Liz Truss was chosen as a new prime minister and leader of his political party Conservative Party. In this race, she defeated Rishi Sunak and replace Boris Johnson.
Truss, 47 excepted as a new cabinet minister and become the third female prime minister. This election was held on online and the total votes were 170,000, Truss get 81,326 votes and Sunak get only 60,399. The total percentage of voting is 82.6%, this implies that Truss won easily as she get 57.4 % and Rishi 42.6%.
After this decision declared Rishi come on Twitter to thank people for supporting him, “Thank you to everyone who voted for me in this campaign. I’ve said throughout that the Conservatives are one family.”
“It’s right we now unite behind the new PM, Liz Truss, as she steers the country through difficult times,” former Exchequer said.
As she win she declared in her speech, “We will deliver, we will deliver, and we will deliver.” “I will deliver on the energy crisis, dealing with people’s energy bills but also dealing with the long-term issues we have on energy supply,” she said, with reference to the key issue dominating the leadership campaign which she dubbed “one of the longest job interviews in history”.
Truss gave a tribute to Johnson’s outgoing leader and thanked her competitor Rishi.
“Boris, you got Brexit done, you crushed [Opposition Labour ex-leader] Jeremy Corbyn, you rolled out the vaccine and you stood up to Vladimir Putin. You are admired from Kyiv to Carlisle,” she said.
The result is declared by the chair of the Conservation Party, MPs, Sir Graham Brady and the venue is Queen Elizabeth centre near Downing Street in London.
“Truss may have been victorious, but it wasn’t the landslide that many were predicting,” the BBC commented.
There is a big change in Conservative party elections rules prepared in 2001. No member is able to become a leader if he or she gets less than 60%. Johnson get 66.4% in 2019, David Cameron get 67/6% in 2005 and in 2001 Duncan was selected who get 60.75.
Rising tax plays a big role in his knocking out and here Truss collect a plus point and starts a campaign against him. Now Truss will join from Tuesday when Johan handover his resignation to Balmoral Queen in Scotland.
“After 12 years of the Tories, all we have to show for it is low wages, high prices, and a Tory cost-of-living crisis. Only Labour can deliver the fresh start our country needs,” said Starmer, he congratulate the new prime minister.
Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, said she “will seek to build a good working relationship” with new prime minister Truss to “freeze energy bills for people and businesses, deliver more cash support, and increase funding for public services.”
Now Truss has to plan for appointed a perfect member for the top position in the party, and another rising subject who affects the public completely. Her first meeting was held with the Queen of Balmorals as a prime minister and give a speech to citizens of the UK.
“What I want to reassure people is I will act, if elected as prime minister, within one week,” Truss said before the result was declared. Now she planned to provide some new taxes which provide some relief for the household.
