‘Babylon Movie’: When Will Come Damien Chazelle’s Next Film?

Babylon Movie

Babylon Movie

Damien Chazelle, who wrote and directed “La La Land” and won an Oscar for it. He is getting ready to go back to Hollywood with his next movie, “Babylon.” This time, he’s returning to Hollywood’s Golden Age, when silent movies turned into talkies.

Like any Hollywood movie, “Babylon’s” cast is full of stars who play fictional and real-life characters. Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt are in it for the first time since “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” another self-dedicated love letter. Olivia Wilde, Samara Weaving, Tobey Maguire, Jean Smart, Spike Jonze, Chloe Fineman and Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers are also in it. (The movie shouldn’t be confused with “Amsterdam,” which also comes out at the end of the year and has a star-studded cast set in the 1930s and is led by Margot Robbie.)

What can we expect from the next movie from the man who made “First Man” and “Whiplash”? TheWrap looks at what we know about “Babylon” so far, including the cast, the plot and other information.

What Is The Story of “Babylon Movie”?

Like “The Artist” from 2011, the movie will be about how the move to sound changed the careers of stars in the late 1920s. Not much is known about the plot, but people who went to CinemaCon in April were able to see the trailer before it came out. Brian Welk of TheWrap said it “has a lot of styles, some jazz and some crazy humor.” One example of this is a scene in which a spear misses Pitt’s character’s head by inches during a staged battle scene on a movie set.

Other than that, details about the plot are kept very secret.

“Babylon Movie”: Who Is In The Cast?

Emma Stone, who won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role for “La La Land,” was supposed to play Robbie’s part at first. However, she had to drop out in late 2020 because of a scheduling conflict. Robbie will play a Hollywood starlet in the Roaring Twenties. Early looks at the film’s CinemaCon footage made it look like she’s playing an “It Girl” like Clara Bow. Pitt will play a role that is based on actor John Gilbert, who is also known as “The Great Lover.”

Babylon Movie Cast

Tobey Maguire will play a man who some people at CinemaCon compared to Charlie Chaplin. Maguire is also one of the film’s executive producers. The “Hacks” star Jean Smart will play a tough film critic and Hollywood reporter.

Olivia Wilde, Samara Weaving, Flea, Katherine Waterston, Li Jun Li, Jovan Adepo, Max Minghella, Eric Roberts, Spike Jonze, Phoebe Tonkin, Chloe Fineman, Lukas Haas, Jeff Garlin, Jennifer Grant, P.J. Byrne, Rory Scovel, Frederick Koehler and Troy Metcalf round out the cast. And that’s just a small part of the huge group of actors listed on IMDb.

Some of Chazelle’s regular team members are on the crew, including composer Justin Hurwitz, cinematographer Linus Sandgren, costume designer Mary Zophres and editor Tom Cross. The production design is being done by Florencia Martin, who worked on “Licorice Pizza” and “Blonde.”

When Will “Babylon Movie” Be Released?

The Paramount movie will only be shown in a few theatres on Christmas Day 2022. On January 6, 2023, it will be shown in all theatres. “Babylon Movie” has come a long way. When it was first announced in 2019, the movie was supposed to come out on Christmas Day 2021. But because of the pandemic, the filming in Los Angeles had to be put off, which moved the release date up by a whole year.

The movie was shot from early July to October of 2021. Bryan Mendoza, a boom operator, said on Twitter that “Babylon” was “easily one of the hardest projects” he had ever worked on. He said the crew was “absolutely one of the best in all of Hollywood.”
