Elton John, whose full name is Sir Elton Hercules John and their birth name is Reginald Kenneth Dwight, is a British singer, composer, and pianist who was one of the most well-known performers of the late 20th century. He was born on March 25, 1947, in Pinner, Middlesex, England.
As Elvis Presley did in a concert and recording career that saw the selling of hundreds of millions of albums, he combined as many genres of popular music and theatrics as possible. John, a piano prodigy when he was young, received a scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music at the age of 11.
He joined Bluesology, afterward John Baldry’s backing band, in the mid-1960s after gravitating toward pop music after discovering rhythm and blues. After responding to an advertisement in a trade journal, he and Bernie Taupin (b. May 22, 1950, Sleaford, Lincolnshire), one of his main songwriter collaborators, met. In 1968, “Lady Samantha” became his first successful British single. He became a great international star as soon as his debut American album, Elton John, was published in 1970.
Career
John had an exceptional knack for integrating and fusing various pop and rock styles into a pulsating, streamlined sound that was outgoing, energizing, and somewhat impersonal throughout his career. He was one of the first to combine synthesized instrumentation with electric guitar and acoustic keyboard in recordings.
His singing style, which had a Southern accent and gospel inflections, was heavily influenced by American music, as was his pianism, an elaborate, gospel-infused extension of Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis’s stylistics. His first American success, “Your Song,” was a love ballad that, in 1970, blended the reflective tone of the singer-songwriters of the time with more conventional pop workmanship.
Early albums by John in the 1970s paid homage to country rock and folk rock icons like the Band and Crosby, Stills, and Nash. One of the best-selling pop artists in the world by 1973 was John. He often wrote songs with Taupin that were loving spoofs and pastiches of everything from the Rolling Stones (“The Bitch Is Back” ) to Frank Sinatra ballads “Blue Eyes”, 1950s rock and roll “Crocodile Rock”, and Philadelphia soul “Philadelphia Freedom”.
Longer pieces like “Burn Down the Mission” from Tumbleweed Connection and “Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding” from Goodbye Yellow Brick Road also showed his more ambitious musical goals .”Rocket Man” from Honky Château and “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” from Caribou are two other songs from this period that are noteworthy.
Elton John discusses coming out and admits he believed everyone knew he was gay
Sir Elton John didn’t formally “come out” as gay until 1988 because he believed the information about him was “common knowledge.” In a 1976 interview with Rolling Stone, the Rocket Man hitmaker said he was attracted to both men and women, but it wasn’t until the icon was in his 40s that he came out to the magazine as gay.
Many people wondered why the music icon waited so long to come out about his sexual orientation, but now the 65-year-old says he never tried to hide it because he just assumed everyone knew. While speaking with the U.S. ‘You’re going to ask me if I’m gay or not,’ I said when (journalist) Cliff Jahr asked me in Rolling Stone. ‘How did you know that?’ I replied, ‘I’ve been waiting for people to ask me this. It’s not exactly a secret. I live with my manager. I’m openly gay outside. I don’t have a girlfriend… I just thought it was common knowledge.
Numerous gay superstars have acknowledged concealing their sexuality to avoid offending fans or jeopardizing their careers, but Sir Elton believes that was not the case for him. He adds, “Sincerely, I didn’t (think it would hurt my career). And to be honest, it did a tiny bit. For a brief period, people in America burnt my records, and radio stations stopped playing my music.”
When he wed Renate Blauel in 1984, Sir Elton also left admirers wondering about his sexual orientation. The couple’s four-year marriage ended in divorce in 1988. Rocker and longtime companion David Furnish are now wed.
The saddest of news to wake up to. Olivia was a beautiful and courageous woman, and I never heard complaints about her illness. A beautiful voice and a warm and loving friend. I will miss her so much. Condolences to her family and loved ones. pic.twitter.com/Ssc6h8WDKh

Additionally, John talked of his love for Ryan White, a young kid whose AIDS diagnosis resulted from a blood transfusion and whose suffering gripped the country. “I had compassion for him because, as you may know, just because he had HIV, his family had to move from one place to another, they had their windows shot out, and firebombs were thrown through their letterbox. wasn’t permitted to attend school, “John told Lauer this.
John’s interview with Lauer is timed to coincide with the publication of his book, “Love is the Cure: On life, loss, and the end of AIDS,” in which he discloses, among other things, that Princess Diana desired to collaborate with his AIDS foundation.
John remarked, “She wanted to do something terribly for the AIDS charity.” She was incredible because she was the first member of the royal family or someone of that stature to enter an AIDS ward, touch patients, hold them, and give them hugs. Also, at a time when people were saying, “Ooh, don’t touch them—you might acquire AIDS,”
“She had no fear in that regard. She also lacked no fear in her actions, whether they involved AIDS or landmines. She was sincere and firmly committed to the cause.”
