About Carly Rae Jepsen
Carly Rae Jepsen is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and guitarist who was born on November 21, 1985, in Mission, British Columbia. She is best known for her global pop hit “Call Me Maybe,” which was the best-selling song in the world in 2012 and the best-selling single in Canadian history.
Jepsen, who calls herself a “musical theatre nerd,” acted in Annie, The Wiz, and Grease when she was in school. She got her first guitar when she was 17 and went to the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, where she planned to become a music teacher until she got the songwriting bug. She was working as a waitress, busking, and singing in local pubs when her high school drama teacher told her to try out for the reality TV show Canadian Idol. Jepsen came in third place in that singing competition, and a tour with other contestants from the show helped her get a recording contract.
