• In March 2010, Bellew won the vacant Commonwealth light-heavyweight title by beating Atoli Moore. He successfully defended the title against Bob Ajisafe in September 2010 and Ovill McKenzie in December 2010, overcoming knockdowns in the latter fight.
• In October 2011, Bellew challenged Nathan Cleverly for the WBO light-heavyweight title but lost via majority decision. He rebounded by winning the British and Commonwealth titles in a rematch against Ovill McKenzie.
