Apex Legends Season 14 Patch Notes Interview: From Self Res To Skull Town

Apex Legends Season 14

Apex Legends Season 14

The Apex Legends team discusses dealing with third parties, self-res management, and bringing Skull Town 2.0 back. ‘Skull Town 2.0’ is wrongly referred to as ‘Skull Town’ by Respawn’s principal level designer Jeff Shaw. Skull Town is an inspiration, but it’s not Skull Town, and we want to be clear about that.”

Season 14 of Apex Legends brings back fond memories. In Kings Canyon, Skull Town has shrunk to a more manageable size, and players who reach level 500 can start afresh with second, third, and fourth prestige to begin the grind all over again. To get the details on managing third-party partners, why Skull Town went gone, and if self-res would ever return, I interviewed Shaw along with his colleagues.

Shaw reveals that Skull Town was eliminated from the game nine seasons ago because it was “unhealthy.” That nearly the whole lobby was landing on the famed drop point was confirmed by Respawn’s analytics, which meant it had to make a change. There was a decision taken to reduce the size of the map and eliminate a POI that was creating a lot of issues, he adds.

“From there, sections of the map were rebuilt,” he says. “As a result, we found that the dispersion of where individuals were landing was a lot healthier when that was completed.” Shaw stated, “no comment” when asked if Respawn will do the same with Fragment.

Most players won’t be turned off by Relic’s small stature, especially early in the season when the competition is most intense. What’s the point of bringing it back? “This is the sort of gameplay people appreciate and that they miss from the map,” adds Shaw, aside from bringing it back for nostalgia.

In addition, we had to devise an innovative solution to an issue we encountered. When it came to rotating between Octane, Market, Caustic Treatment and Salvage, and the rest of that region, we ran into some problems. Even if you tried to avoid it, you were sucked into engagements because of how it was set up.

Broken Relay has also got a glow-up, introducing additional buildings and better loot to combat the high number of POIs south of Kings Canyon. However, treasure balance has been adjusted across the globe to encourage players to land in a broader variety of locations, including the newly renamed Basin.

While Crash Site and Relic expanded Kings Canyon to the south, Apex’s initial layout remains the tiniest. The smaller the area, the more third parties there are to contend with, and this is why many players opt to burrow down with characters like Caustic and Wattson to reset safely. The issue of third parties is one Shaw is aware of, but he is cautious of removing them entirely from the game.

Third parties are a “good part of the game,” he adds, “when third parties are happening too much in particular areas, we look at it as being a little bit of a concern.” Hillside Outpost’s structures will be removed, he says, and the Redeploy Balloons in the center of the map will be removed, making it harder for teams to hide down after a conflict.

There is also a “choke point” between Bunker, Cage and Hillside Outpost that Shaw outlines, leaving teams with longer paths to see an encounter on the opposite side of the major mountain range of Kings Canyon. If they don’t have a Valkyrie, then.

Hardcore gamers will be aware that Apex’s leveling system is limited to 500, beyond which you can no longer proceed. Since the game was released, the level ceiling increased from 100 to 500 so swiftly that I wondered why it had taken so long to raise it again.

He says, “I think it’s just how much of the player base is close to that cap.” This is a long process.” People that play this as a full-time job and reach 500 rapidly aren’t the norm for the majority of players.

We’d like to be careful in our expansion of it. Moving from 500 to 2,000 [the prestige system sees players regress to a new level 1 after reaching 500] is an excellent move right now. The reason we’re doing this adjustment now is because of it. ” The Apex pack drop rate should also be increased according to the quantity of content we have.

We only had a small number of skins available for purchase for the first nine months since you don’t want people to run out of things to unwrap. Because of this, we may release more Apex packs onto the market as the content pool develops.

The total number of Apex Packs you’ll receive when reaching level 2,000 (or, more precisely, 500 for the fourth time) is 544. The ‘pity Heirloom,’ the ultra-rare collector cosmetics with an absurdly low drop rate, is guaranteed in your 500th pack if you haven’t previously gotten one. This is critically above the threshold.

When Heirlooms first launched, it was a completely unheard-of concept, according to Rutledge. The red Apex packs are now “like such a highly sought-after commodity that we wanted to offer everyone an opportunity to receive the sense of the red Apex pack opening experience.” You’ll have to put in a lot of time to get there.

Weapons have always been the most significant change in each season. The G7 Scout and Volt SMG are being replaced with the Rampage LMG and Bocek Bow in the Care Package, despite my objections. Because it’s “far more comparable to the bow that we launched for that first week and then hotfixed down,” game designer Eric Canavese reassured me when I asked whether the Bocek boost in the bundle was a personal grudge.

He also told me that, despite Respawn’s testing, the Rampage wouldn’t be charged entirely when you find it in the Care Package. His response: “We did try that early in our experiments,” he claims. To test this, we even attempted charging it for free but with a window, so you still had to walk through the glass, but we discovered that it simply disrupted things a little bit and then you get into this scenario where you’ll just constantly charge it.

As a result, we were forced to put it in the package with a free Thermite,” says the author. In terms of weaponry, the Wingman has been given Sniper Ammo while the Spitfire has been upgraded to Light. The only thing that has altered is the amount of ammunition you can carry for the Wingman headshots.

As Cavanese puts it, “it was simply too simple to run with the heavy ammo and just enjoy and the ability to span with two stacks for the full game.” It’s in the Replicator for Season 14 as “a little bit of an experiment” to get players to construct an early-game weapon, and the Devotion is also there. Gold equipment is the final significant modification to treasure.

The Gold Knockdown Shield now can restore friends at half health instead of a sliver, and the Gold Backpacks can now hold three huge medications instead of two. Self-resurrection has been a longstanding issue for professional players, and now it appears to be a thing of the past.

We must show that we’re listening to our community, but we’re not going to do everything the community wants,” adds Cavanese. “And this isn’t simply something to alleviate the community, we feel that it will help the health of the game, the rated integrity and professional performance across the board. A lot of negative attitude surrounding anything means that we’ll dig into it and draw our judgments about its health and so forth.

With self-restraint, we could develop a new idea and test it out. Maybe we’ll go back to self-res if this doesn’t work well. Despite this, “we’re always ready for trying new things, and we don’t want to be afraid to respond to it and give new things a chance in the game.”
