Elvis Movie Crosses $210 Million at Global Box Office

The musical drama “Elvis” directed by Baz Luhrmann, is now streaming in theatres and this weekend it has grossed more than $6.7 million from 73 overseas territories. Now, the total earnings have reached approximately $92 million internationally.

The rock and roll documentary has grossed $210 million worldwide and this weekend it has a 15% jump across the United Kingdom, whereas Latin American territories reported an additional drop of 18%.

Before the success of Elvis, a few big-budget films intended for older audiences like The Last Duel and West Side Story among others blew up remarkably. The sole that survived was perhaps House of Gucci, which grossed $156 million globally due to its energetic Lady Gaga performance and a storyline that was actually crime-friendly.

Elvis stars Austin Butler in the role of King of Rock and Roll, whereas Tom Hanks in his much-disgraded manager named Colonel Tom Parker.

It is Baz’s first movie since The Great Gatsby which was released in 2013 and earned more than $350 million at the box office. The success of the movie is majorly accredited to the star power of Leonardo DiCaprio as well as the movie’s progressive confrontation on a plot set during the 1920s.

Though Elvis perhaps not be able to leave the worldwide earnings from The Great Gatsby, it has already become the 4th-biggest Warner Bros. title of the past 3 years, having exceeded the total earnings at the domestic box office of 2 remarkable pandemic-period hit that has been distributed by the studio: Director Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi Dune which grossed $108 million, and director Adam Wingard’s Godzilla vs. Kong which successfully earned $100 million.

Kindly note that both the films debuted day-and-date on the HBO Max streaming service, and streamed in theaters at a time when viewers were more concerned with regard to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Elvis has received majorly positive reviews from its audiences and a special appreciation for being helmed at Butler’s star-making central performance. Though it also drew some criticism for the movie’s long run time of more than two-and-a-half hours and the over-the-top performance by Hanks. The film’s cast also includes Olivia DeJonge, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Helen Thomson, and many others.

What is the Storyline of Elvis?

Here’s the official synopsis of Elvis:

“Elvis’s story is seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Hanks). As told by Parker, the film delves into the complex dynamic between the two spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).”

Elvis has no doubt excelled in winning the hearts of audiences with some exceptions obviously. Keep a watch on our website for more such updates.
