L.Q. Jones is his stage name which is from his debut film character, his real name is Justus Ellis McQueen Jr. Jones was born on 19 August 1927 in Beaumont, Texas and his parents are Jessie Paralee and Justus Ellis McQueen Sr. His mother died in an accident when John was in his childhood.
He started his school education from Port Neches-Groves School in 1945 serving in the United State Navy. Attended Lamar Junior College for law and journalism. Then started his career as comedian, baseball player and as football player also.

In 1955, Jones entered Hollywood with a movie titled Battle Cry. After that he was cast in western series Cheyenne by Clint Walker for three episodes. From 1960 to 1970 John acted in every second film and became a permanent member of Sam Peckinpah’s stock company of actors.
He appeared in Klondike, Ride the High Country (1962), Major Dundee (1965), The Wild Bunch (1969), The Ballad of Cable Hogue (1970), and Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973).
Jones’s close friend Strother Martin also cast opposite him in The Wild Bunch.He was cast in western series Gunsmoke, Laramie, Two Faces West and The Virginian.
Then he appeared in the military drama Men of Annapolis.In Perry Mason, he made guest appearances two times. Then Jones was cast in Hawaii Five-O season 1,one episode of The A-Team and two episodes of The Fall Guy.
Men in War (1957), The Naked and the Dead (1958), Flaming Star (1960), Cimarron (1960), Hell Is for Heroes (1962), Hang ‘Em High (1968), Stay Away, Joe (1968), The Brotherhood of Satan (1971) are the movies Jones appeared.
There are produced by Jones, Attack on Terror: The FBI vs. the Ku Klux Klan (1975), White Line Fever 1976 Lone Wolf McQuade (1983), Casino (1995), “Tornado!” (1996), The Edge (1997), The Mask of Zorro (1998), and A Prairie Home Companion (2006).

Jones married in 1950 with Neta Lewis and he had three children, two sons and one daughter. After 23 years of marriage they got divorced in 1973.

A versatile actor died on 9 July 2022 at an age of 94 and it was announced by Jones’s grandson Erte deGraces. He passed away in his home at Hollywood Hills and the reason behind his death is natural death. As he is not suffering from any kind of disease. Jones spent time with his family before death. His son Randy McQueen, Steve Marshall and his daughter Mindy McQueen survived him.
