On Monday, June 13, 2022, Jeffrey Nero Hardy, popular as Jeff Hardy, a former professional WWE star and current All Elite Wrestling (AEW) performer, was arrested in Florida on DUI and other charges, as confirmed by police.
The 44-year-old was taken into custody for DUI, driving when his license was revoked, and breaching a prohibition that demands him to have a DUI interlock device inside his vehicle. According to The Daytona Beach News-Journal, it is the third DUI offense by Hardy’s third DUI offense in the past decade and is a third-degree felony.
Hardy Was Driving With a Revoked Driving License
The Volusia County Corrections website claims that the charges are a reported third drug or alcohol-linked DUI offense within the past a decade, driving a vehicle in spite of having a revoked, canceled, or suspended license, and breaching the prohibitions imposed upon the license of a driver, which resulted because of his earlier arrests.
His surety cash bond is stated as $3,500, which comprises $500 for each license charge, and the remaining $2,500 for the DUI.
On Wednesday, Jeff was slated to team up with his brother Matt against The Young Bucks and Jungle Express for the AEW Tag Team Championship.
Matt Discussed Jeff’s Health in His Recent Interview
His brother Matt gave an interview to Lucha Libre Online just the night before Jeff’s arrest, where he talked about the latter’s health.
Matt said “As long as Jeff clears [is medically cleared], which I think he’s going to clear OK, we really want to go out and tear the house down in this three-way ladder match and become the AEW World Tag Team Champions,” adding further “If we do that, we are going to be the first tag team in pro wrestling history to hold the major world tag team titles in four different decades”.
Last December, Jeff was a shock departure from WWE after an incident at a live event. Because of this Jeff declined to go to rehab and WWE released him in spite of Jeff passing a drug test.
Later, he made his AEW Dynamite debut on the day he became an official free agent, teaming up with Matt who had signed with AEW in March 2020.
Matt said “It’s been really great teaming with Jeff again,” adding “Especially in AEW, where I feel we get highlighted in a certain light that stays true to the legend status that hopefully, we’ve obtained.”
He further added “People tell us that. We honestly don’t necessarily feel like that because we’re two young kids jumping on a trampoline at the end of the day. We’ve dreamed to do this,” continuing “Now, October will be 30 years of doing it. So, it’s very cool. I know for both of us, it was our goal, to go out the way we came in together – teaming up.”
“As little kids, we just wanted to be the world tag team champions one time. We’ve done that literally many, many times over exponentially. We want to cement our legacy as one of the best tag teams ever” Matt added.
Jeff has been involved in several legal controversies over the years and the majority were because of his addiction to drugs and alcohol, which is something about which he was open.
Other Legal Controversies
Jeff was arrested on allegations of trafficking in controlled prescription pills and possession of anabolic steroids on September 11, 2009, following a search of his house, 262 Vicodin prescription pills, 555 milliliters of anabolic steroids, 180 Soma prescription pills, powder cocaine, as well as drug paraphernalia was found.
He was then sent to prison for 10 days, and thirty months of probation, and imposed $100,000 in penalty. From October 3 to 13, 2011, he served his sentence in prison.
In 2021, he was let go following another term in WWE.
