Cris Collinsworth was born in Dayton, Ohio on January 27, 1959. His father and mother, both were teachers, and apparently, his father became the superintendent for all schools within Brevard County. When Cris was 4, the family moved to Melbourne, Florida in 1963.
He went to Astronaut High School where his father was principal. When he was in high school, Cris used to play a lot of sports and obtained victory in the 100-yard dash state championship. Furthermore, Cris was also named a high school All-American quarterback.
Following receiving a football scholarship at the University of Florida, he went on to play football and threw a 99-yard touchdown pass against the Rice Owls, which was the longest touchdown pass in the history of the NCAA.

The Cincinnati Bengals drafted Cris in 1981. He spent eight years with this team during his NFL career. Cris was named to the Pro Bowl three times during his playing career.
