Personal Life
In July 1196, Favre got married to Deanna Tynes. They welcomed their first child, a daughter, Brittany in 1989. In 1999, their second daughter, Breleigh was born. When he was still playing in the NFL, his oldest daughter, Brittany welcomed her first child, making him the first NFL active player with a grandchild.
Career Beginnings
Brett received a football scholarship to Southern Mississippi University. However, they preferred him to play as a defensive back, he chose to play quarterback. Consequently, he began his freshman year season as the seventh-string quarterback.
He didn’t take on as starting quarterback through the second half of the third game. His performance in that game brought him more recognition as a quarterback, and he began 10 games during his freshman year.
He had fifteen games during his college career in which he had over 200 passing yards; among those fifteen games, 5 had over 300-yards. He made many Southern Mississippi football records until 2011 when Austin Davis broke a lot of them.
Professional Career
He was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round with the 33rd overall pick in the 1991 NFL Draft. In July 1991, he signed a three-year, $1.4 million deal along with $350,000 as a signing bonus.
Jerry Glanville, the Atlanta head coach, didn’t approve of drafting Brett. Whilst with the Falcons, he just had four passes; he was blocked twice and completed none of the passes.
Ron Wolf, who was an assistant to the general manager of the New York Jets at the time, had originally preferred to draft Favre in the 1991 NFL draft, however, the Falcons selected him.
Hence, in 1992, now as the general manager of the Green Bay Packers, Wolf traded a first-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons in return for Favre. He then played sixteen seasons in Green Bay and became the first and sole NFL player who won 3 back-to-back AP MVP awards.
In addition to that, he helped lead the Packers to 2 Super Bowls, the Super Bowl XXXI and Super Bowl XXXII, and they gained victory in the XXXI game. Between September 20, 1992, and January 20, 2008, he began every Packer game; his streak would run a wonderful 297 games, an NFL record.
In March 2008, Brett formally made the announcement about his retirement.
