Early Life
Ozzy Osbourne was born in Birmingham, England on 3 December 1948. He is the child of John Thomas “Jack” Osbourne and Lilian. His father worked as a toolmaker whereas his mother worked at a factory.
Ozzy also has five siblings: three older sisters and two younger brothers. He was inspired to follow his musical career because of the Beatles and their 1963 song titled “She Loves You”.
When he was 15, he dropped out of school and started working in several types of jobs such as trainee plumber, construction site laborer, apprentice toolmaker, car factory horn-tuner, and many others.
Personal Life
In 1971, Ozzy met Thelma Riley at a nightclub in Birmingham, and in the same year, the couple tied the knot. The couple has two children together, and Ozzy also adopted Thelma’s son from a former relationship, however, the duo apparently divorced.
Later, in July 1982, he tied the knot with his manager Sharon Arden and the couple have three kids together. The family split their time between their homes in England, Buckinghamshire, and Los Angeles, California.

Music Career
In late 1967, Geezer Butler hired Ozzy to become the vocalist for the band Rare Breed. However, just after 2 shows, Rare Breed broke up. Ozzy and Butler came together in order to set up the bank Polka Tulk Blues, including drummer Bill Ward and guitarist Tony Iommi.
In August 1969, they adopted the new brand name: Black Sabbath, which was based on the movie of the same title. Later, they started playing a heavy blues style of music that had gloomier and deeper lyrics.
In November 1969, Black Sabbath signed to Philips Records, and their first single titled “Evil Woman” was released in January 1970, and the next month, their first self-titled album was released.
Though their debut record didn’t gather positive reviews, and their US record label Warner Bros. Records just invested simply in the band, their debut became a huge success commercially.
They then released many albums like 1970’s Paranoid, 1971’s Master of Reality, and 1972’s Volume 4 and all of which did not perform many positive reviews though they did become a commercial success.
Just within two months following its release, Master of Reality was certified gold, and Volume 4 was also certified gold in the first month.
Their album entitled Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1973) became their first album that received positive receptions from the leading press and became their 5th continuous platinum album in the US. Osbourne’s other albums on which he worked with the band are 1975’s Sabotage, 1976’s Technical Ecstasy and 1978’s Never Say Die!.
Ozzy’s bandmates ousted him from the band in April 1979 and the reason behind this decision was said to be his weird behavior and excessive substance abuse problems. Following Ozzy leaving Black Sabbath, the band’s manager Don Arden signed Ozzy to Jet Records.
In Late 1979, Ozzy set up the band the Blizzard of Ozz in Los Angeles, California, and the next year they released their first album entitled Blizzard of Ozz, which was solely credited to Ozzy and he began his solo career with this.
He then released several other albums titled 1981’s Diary of a Madman, 1982’s Speak of the Devil, 1988’s No Rest for the Wicked, and 1991’s No More Tears. His first solo album titled Ordinary Man was released in over a decade, on 21 February 2020.
Ozzy has sold over 100 million albums and he was signed up into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Black Sabbath. Ozzy is also in the UK Music Hall of Fame both as a band member and a solo artist.
He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and also the Birmingham Walk of Stars. Osbourne received the Global Icon Award at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2014.
Ozzfest
Ozzy started the metal festival tour Ozzfest in the mid-1990s which he still organizes and at which he has even given performances occasionally. His wife and also manager, Sharon Osbourne manages it whereas his son, Jack assists.
On October 25, 1996, the first Ozzfest took place in Phoenix, Arizona and it has since had 5 million attendees and earned more than $100 million. The credit goes to the popularity and success of Ozzfest, Ozzy became the first-ever hard rock and heavy metal star who reached merchandise sales of $50 million.
Reality-TV
In 2004, Ozzy and his wife Sharon appeared in the MTV reality show called Battle for Ozzfest, in which a number of unsigned bands were featured competing for a place in the 2005 Ozzfest.
Further, the Osbourne family had their own reality television show titled The Osbournes on MTV, and it ran from the period 2002 to 2005. The first season of the show became the most-watched series ever on MTV during the time.
