Early Life

Ryan Kaji was born in Texas on October 6, 2011. He is the child of Loann Kaji and Shion Kaj and they stay in Cypress, Texas.

Ryan’s World

In March 2015, Ryan began creating YouTube videos, when he observed all the toy review channels populating the platform and thought of becoming a part of the aspect.

After noticing a huge opportunity for making gains, his mother left her job as a high school chemistry teacher so that she can pay her entire focus on the channel. Previously, it was called Ryan ToysReview; but after, it was changed to Ryan’s World.

The channel mainly focuses on featuring Kaji when he unboxes, plays with, and reviews a myriad of toys, and the maximum of the toys was sent through collaboration with toy companies.

In more recent years, the channel’s scope has broadened to also add videos of Ryan performing ordinary things such as doing everyday routines with his family or getting a haircut.

Over the years, the popularity of Ryan’s World has developed rampantly. Furthermore, though a lot of people have slammed the consumerist excess of the channel, his parents claim that the maximum of the featured toys are sent to a charity, whereas others are distributed to family and friends.

Product Line

Ryan’s World has expanded and combined its commercial popularity with the launch of a line of applications, video games, television series, and other products.

Ryan’s parents entered into a deal with the startup children’s media company named PocketWatch in 2017 which manages promotion and merchandise for Ryan’s World.

In 2018, the family developed a gaming application for children named “Tag with Ryan,” with both PocketWatch and the game development studio WildWorks. In 2019, a pre-schooler TV show titled “Ryan’s Mystery Playdate,” was produced by Ryan’s World and PocketWatch.

It had twenty episodes and premiered on Nick Jr. In the same year, the video game “Race with Ryan,” a racing game was launched for PS4, Xbox One, the Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows.

A hybrid live-action anime series titled “Super Spy Ryan” was premiered by Ryan’s World in November 2020 on Amazon Kids+. The following month, the announcement came out that an official Ryan’s World game would be released on the renowned gaming platform Roblox.

Amongst the other products of the channel is a line of toys created in partnership with PocketWatch and Bonkers Toys. The line that has slime, stuffed animals, action figures, T-shirts, and others, was previously an exclusive of Walmart in the summer of 2018.

Controversies

Over the years, Ryan’s World has been involved in a lot of controversies. There are a lot of people who have slammed the channel, and by extension Ryan’s parents, for using the young child just to make a profit.

As YouTube doesn’t have the usual film production rules which limit the working hours of a small child, Ryan could apparently be pushed to work for long hours as compared to what he should be allowed.

Though his mother has claimed that she ensures that her son decides his own routine, it is still not clear to what level her son feels forced because of the business pressures of the operation, and in case he would have the skill to call it quits if he sought to.

In the other controversy, in 2019, a complaint was filed by Truth in Advertising and the Federal Trade Commission claiming that Ryan’s World didn’t reveal its sponsored videos in an appropriate manner.

The then-watchdog organization alleged that nearly 90 percent of the channel’s videos have a minimum of one paid product advertisement targeted at viewers too young to learn the distinction between a review and an ad.

Additionally, it was highlighted that a lot of the videos endorse foods that aren’t healthy at all. As a result, the FTC sued YouTube and Google for $170 million, which resulted in YouTube altering its rules to adhere to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
