Is the Afterparty Return for Season 2 in 2022? (Latest Update)

Tiffany Haddish’s Afterparty is hers to do with as she pleases! Apple TV Plus has renewed The Afterparty for a second season, which means more comedy/murder mystery shenanigans are in store.

Haddish will reprise her role as Detective Danner in The Afterparty, but what about the rest of the cast? To be sure, we’ve recently learned more about it.

Miller conceived and directed the series, which is executive produced by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord. Season 1 opens with a murder during a high school reunion’s afterparty.

Each episode is narrated from the perspective of a new individual and features a variety of genres, from psychological thriller to musical to animation.

Season 1 concluded with the disclosure of the killer, implying that season 2 will focus on a brand-new case handled by Haddish.

This is consistent with previous murder mysteries such as Knives Out 2 (in which Daniel Craig reprises his role as Detective Benoit Blanc) and White Lotus season 2. (only Jennifer Coolidge returns from the original cast).

Everything you need to know about The Afterparty’s second season is here.

The Afterparty Season 2 Release date

Apple TV Plus has not yet announced a release date for The Afterparty season 2.

The streaming service renewed the series on March 2, so the development of season 2 may take some time. Miller and Lord are a whirlwind of a production team.

They are now working on the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel and a variety of other projects, including a relaunch of Clone High and Ryan Gosling’s Project Hail Mary.

Even if Miller relinquishes show running duties for The Afterparty season 2, screenplay writing and production might take months. Season 2 is not expected to air until mid-to late-2023, at the earliest.

The Afterparty Season 2

The Afterparty Season 2 Cast

Tiffany Haddish, who will reprise her role as Detective Danner, is the sole confirmed cast member for The Afterparty season 2. Despite this, Chris Miller, the creator of The Afterparty, told Variety that “there will be returning actors in addition to Tiffany and a whole bunch of new faces.” So

This implies Sam Richardson as Aniq, Zo Chao as Zo, Ike Barinholtz as Brett, Ilana Glazer as Chelsea, Jamie Demetriou as Walt, John Early as Danner’s companion Detective Culp, and Reid Scott as Danner’s antagonist Detective Germain might all return. Ben Schwartz’s comeback as Yasper is arguably the least likely.

While Dave Franco’s comeback as murder victim Xavier is unlikely, we may see more of Xavier in his music videos that were not shown in season 1.

Otherwise, we anticipate that season 2 will feature many new faces, similar to how Knives Out 2 and The White Lotus season 2 did.

The Afterparty Season 2 Plot

Danner will most likely take on a new case during the afterparty of another event in season 2, given the season 1 murder mystery was solved and the perpetrator revealed.

The climax, named “Maggie,” included an unexpected witness: Zoe and Brett’s titular daughter. The small child related to Danner about her evening, which included sketching a cat face on Aniq and witnessing Jennifer #2 wet herself (her water broke, so she went to the hospital).

Maggie’s testimony fills in several gaps for Danner, who asserts that she knows who the perpetrator is. That would be Aniq, Brett, or Walt. However, Walt was in the toilet plotting his streaking exploits.

Aniq says that he saw Brett in the driveway during the murder. Prepared to face the consequences, Aniq notices that every narrative version refers to the closet being closed. However, when he went to see the drawings on his face, he discovered that it was open.

There had been something hidden within, and it was Yasper! He was enraged by Xavier’s celebrity and that he had not blessed Yasper’s music.

As a result, he chose to get revenge by murdering Xavier, stealing the song, and publishing it posthumously as a duet.

When Yasper brings up his messages with Xavier as proof of their friendship, Danner remarks that the A/V technician could easily have acquired the password for the deceased pop singer.

Aniq then discovers that Yasper may have deleted the security footage using Xavier’s phone. Yasper is apprehended after the phone is discovered in his pocket.

Danner brags to her commander and her rival, Detective Germain, about her victory. Aniq and Zoe, meantime, go out for breakfast. When she stops at the side of the road, she inquires whether he will ever make a move. They kiss, only to be cut off by Walt, who politely requests a ride home.

This afterparty is certainly finished now that the investigation is closed and Jasper appears to be headed to prison. However, Danner may be in line for another. What will her next case entail?

Perhaps a Christmas bash for tech giants or a post-festival rager? Or perhaps she’ll outwit Germain by traveling to Hollywood for an awards show afterparty.
