Drifters is a Japanese anime television series that is adapted from the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Kouta Hirano. The anime adaptation is produced by Yasuyuki Ueda and Yoshiyuki Fudetani while it is written by Hideyuki Kurata.
The series is licensed by Universal/Sony in Australia, Funimation in North America, and Universal Pictures UK in the United Kingdom.
The first season of the series premiered from October 7, 2016, to December 23, 2016, with a total of 12 episodes on Tokyo MX and other networks. Later it also released 3 OVA episodes.
Is Drifters Renewed for Season 2?
The series was officially renewed for a second season at the end of the twelfth episode since it concluded with a message that read “See You Again, Tokyo 20XX”, however, after that no additional information has been shared so far regarding the development of the series’ second season.
Given the time that has passed, fans have been waiting for the release of the second season for quite a very long time. We hope we get a positive update soon about it.
Drifters Season 2 Release Date
As of now, there is no premiere date for the series and even if the series has been renewed back in 2016 for a second season, no further updates have been shared and hence the series hasn’t moved forward.
The preliminary reason behind the postponement of the renewed second season may be the insufficient content for adaptation.
At the time of writing this piece, just six volumes are available there and out of which, the four volumes were covered in the first season so we are just left with the remaining two volumes.
With this, it becomes clear that the development of a second season covering just two volumes isn’t possible. And above all, the 3 OVA episodes that were released later, also covered half of the fifth volume and that makes matters even worse.
What Is the Storyline of Drifters?
The story of the anime series revolves around Shimazu Toyohisa, who is from the middle ages but is moved to a modern-day parallel world. As he gets up, he discovers himself in a corridor that includes hundreds of doors on either side. He then soon finds that his new world is full of many fantastic beasts and people.
Shimzau also discovers many warriors on the way who join him. These warriors came together to find out that this modern-day world is filled with tyrants and are committed to getting rid of them and setting the people free.
