My Unorthodox Life is a television miniseries by streaming service Netflix that revolves around the CEO of Elite World Group, Julia Haart, and the daily lives of her family in New York City following leaving their ultra-Orthodox Jewish community upstate previously.
The fashion designer exhibits her business-savvy outlook and celebrates family life with children: Batsheva, Shlomo, Miriam, and Aron, whom she had with her then-husband, Yosef Handler.
Her second husband, Silvio Haart, and Elite’s COO, Robert Brotherton, also appeared on the first season of the show. The show became successful and has an IMDB rating of 5.4 out of 10. So now, let’s check out My Unorthodox Life Season 2 as we know that fans have been eagerly waiting to know about it.
Is My Unorthodox Life Renewed for Season 2?
In September 2021, the renewal of the show was officially announced and it would also revolve around family, fashion, and other such things.
“Two big things got crossed off my Bucket List this week… Go on @theellenshow ✔️ Get a Season 2 of My Unorthodox Life on @netflix ✔️ 🥳,” the New York native wrote via Instagram at the time, alongside a clip from the daytime program.
“Thank you SO much to everyone who has reached out, shared stories with us, and lovingly supported the show. Thank you for letting us share our lives with you, we can’t wait to dive even deeper! Season 2 here we come!”
Soon after the official announcement about renewal came out, the businesswoman talked about the show’s storyline on the Ellen DeGeneres Show saying “You know, it took my eight years to tell my story,” adding further “There [are] so many women who’ve been told they’re less than, that they have to wait their turn, that they have to be polite and I thought, ‘Here’s a story about a crazy woman who picked herself up at 43 and changed everything about her life.’ I hope that it gives inspiration and courage to others to do the same.”
Earlier, the Brazen author departed from the Orthodox Jewish community in Monsey, New York, over her separation from Hendler, right prior to establishing her name in the fashion industry. The first season aired on Netflix on July 14, 2021, with a total of 9 episodes.
Julia handled her career along with her responsibilities as a mother and her children wanted to discover their own identity since they also moved out of their hometown and relocated to Manhattan.
Earlier, in an August 2021 interview with Nylon, Batsheva, who got separated from her husband Ben Weinstein in November 2021, talked about shooting the documentary saying “I think that my mom’s reason for sharing her journey is because she wants to show people that are unhappy or are struggling in any religion or any society where they feel that there are extreme rules, that you can still live a very fulfilling and accomplished life without sticking to all those rules,” adding further “I think that that’s what makes the show so appealing because it’s not just about extreme Judaism, it’s about any religion or any society where women feel less than or are just meant to have children. So that’s what really makes it so relatable.”
Last year, in October, the matriarch told E! News “People got very curious about our life,” adding “I love constantly changing and evolving, so there are a lot of surprises in season two, let’s just stay that.”
Julia’s kids have also been very clear regarding the forthcoming episodes. In October 2021, her younger daughter, Miriam, for her segment, teased the series’ return through Instagram: “WE ARE BACK FOR ANOTHER SEASON!! Get ready for SEASON 2 of #MyUnorthodoxLife coming out on @netflix !!!”
What Can We Expect From My Unorthodox Life Season 2?
According to an official press release from the network, the upcoming season is supposed to have more “fashion, family, female empowerment, faith, fabulousness, and of course, Haart.”
In season 2, Julia Haart said “There are a lot of surprises in season 2,” the mother of four teased E! News in October 2021, noting that viewers have been very interested in learning about her past life.
“I get questions all the time: ’Did you watch TV, did you not watch TV? Did you read a book, did you not read a book?’ What they don’t understand is that it is a world where your destiny is defined by your biology. That’s what it is. As a woman, you’re told that every woman’s place is the same; Every man’s place in life is the same.”
Who Will Join the Cast of My Unorthodox Life Season 2?
Though no official announcement has been made yet by Netflix about it yet given the press release statements of Julia’s “family,” the show will most likely follow up with the modeling agency executive, influencer Batsheva, and law student Shlomo, engineering whiz Miriam and teenager Aron.
Weinstein, who was married to Batsheva for a period of 9 years, gave an indication that he wouldn’t be available for the second season of the show soon after the confirmation about their separation came out.
Is There Any Release Date Announced Yet?
There is no exact premiere date for My Unorthodox Life Season 2, seems like we would need to wait for it a bit more.
In December 2021 at the DeuxMoi x Studs Holiday Party, Miriam said “I think [filming season 1] definitely brought [the family] closer and the reason for that is because we’ve shared this experience that I haven’t shared with anybody else,” adding further “We’ve been on the show together, we’ve been vulnerable with each other and only they know how I feel because they feel the same way so it’s definitely brought us closer and I’m so lucky to have gone through this with them.”
Soon after the renewal of the show was announced, Miriam said that their whole family was “down” to get back to the cameras.
In December 2021, the Stanford University student said “We’ve gotten so much positive feedback from season 1 [and] I’ve gotten 100s, probably 1,000s of DMs from people saying thank you for talking about my sexuality, being a woman in tech, and [that feedback is] so much validation to talk about your story,” adding “All I can say about season 2 is that we’re being more vulnerable, there’s more drama and it’s just extra, extra, extra and so I’m really excited for everyone to see it.”
Furthermore, this year in February, it was confirmed that Julia filed for divorce from her husband with whom she was married for 2 years. The duo later started a messy back and forth, with Julia being ousted from Elite World Group.
According to reports, “Silvio was part of the first week of filming My Unorthodox Life with Julia. He has no plans to be part of filming moving forward and it’s TBD whether he’ll appear in season 2 or if he’ll be cut out. Time will tell.”
