Early Life
Boseman was born on November 29, 1976, in Anderson, South Carolina. He is the child of Leroy Boseman, an executive at a textile factory, also used to manage an upholstery business, and Carolyn Boseman, a nurse.
When he was young, Boseman learned martial arts and went on this training as an adult. During his childhood, he aspired to become an architect.
In 1995, he completed his graduation from T. L. Hanna High School where he was a part of the basketball team and actively played there.
During his junior year, Boseman penned his first-ever play titled Crossroads and performed the same on the school’s stage following one of his classmates being shot dead. He participated in Speech and Debate in the National Speech and Debate Association at T. L. Hanna.
At the 1995 National Tournament, Boseman ranked 8th in Original Oratory. In his college, he was selected to play basketball; however, he decided to study arts rather and went to attend college at Howard University in Washington, D.C. where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in directing in 2000.
When he was at Howard, he used to work in an African-American-oriented bookstore close to the university, which as per his friend Vanessa German, was necessary and turned out motivational for him; he derived his experience there for his play titled Hieroglyphic Graffiti.
At Howard, his teachers Al Freeman Jr. and Phylicia Rashad became his role model and guide. Rashad assisted in raising funds, remarkably from her friend and well-known actor Denzel Washington, in order to enable Boseman and other classmates to attend the Oxford Summer Program of the British American Drama Academy at Balliol College, Oxford, in England and there all of them had been selected.
Boseman sought to write and helm and firstly started learning acting in order to understand how to deal with actors. In 1998, he went to attend the program, and gathered praises for the playwriting of William Shakespeare, learning the works of many dramatists along with Samuel Beckett and Harold Pinter.
While at college, he also went to Africa for the first time, working in Ghana beside his professor named Mike Malone “to preserve and celebrate rituals with performances on a proscenium stage”; he stated that it was “one of the most significant learning experiences of [his] life”.
When he got back to the United States, he enrolled in additional coursework in film studies and completed graduation from Digital Film Academy in New York City.

In 2015, Boseman started dating singer Taylor Simone Ledward. According to reports, the couple became engaged in October 2019, and later they got married secretly, as Boseman’s family confirmed in a statement while revealing his demise.
He was brought up as a Christian and was part of a church choir and youth group and his then-pastor stated that he still had his faith. He studied Hebrew and had a sound knowledge of both the Old Testament and New Testament.
Boseman said that he wished to be the Black Panther prior to when he landed the role as the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Career
Before moving to Los Angeles, Boseman had already experienced working widely as an actor in many television shows like “Law & Order,” “CSI: NY,” “Third Watch,” and “ER.” At this time, he went on to write, and one of his plays was staged in Chicago.
After he moved to Los Angeles, Boseman landed a recurring role in the show titled “Lincoln Heights.” He debuted with the film titled “The Express: The Ernie Davis Story.”
He landed another recurring role in the series titled “Persons Unknown” by the year 2010. In 2013, his major breakthrough came after he landed a lead role in the film titled “42.” He portrayed the character of baseball star Jackie Robinson in that movie. In the same year, he was featured in the independent movie titled “The Kill Hole.”
In the next year, he had booked a role in another sports movie titled “Draft Day,” alongside Kevin Costner. He ended that year with the portrayal of James Brown in the film titled “Get on Up.” In 2016, he rose to fame after he portrayed the Egyptian god Thoth in “Gods of Egypt.”
Although, his most popular role of that year arrived with the portrayal of T’Challa in “Captain America.” This was the first appearance of the superhero Black Panther in a Marvel film.

Death
On August 28, 2020, Chadwick Boseman died at the age of 43 from complications due to colon cancer. He had been fighting for six years after he was first diagnosed with colon cancer.
Awards
Boseman tasted fame internationally for portraying the role of superhero Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe from the period 2016 to 2019.
He was then seen in another 4 MCU films, along with the 2018 film that brought him an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture as well as a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
Being the first-ever black actor to headline an MCU film, he was also named in the 2018 Time 100. His last movie titled Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, came out subsequently the same year to critical acclaim and brought him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama.

He made a donation of $10,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Harlem in order to give free tickets to children who aspired to watch Black Panther and the reason behind this was to endorse and promote the Black Panther Challenge begun by a New Yorker to raise funds for similar children throughout the country. In that response, Disney contributed $1 million to the Boys & Girls Clubs to promote its STEM programs.
