Dua Lipa was born on August 22, 1995, in London, England. Her parents had relocated from Pristina, FR Yugoslavia (modern-day Kosovo) some years before her birth. Dukagjin Lipa, her father, is the marketing director and main vocalist for the Kosovan rock band Oda.

Her mother, Anesa Lipa, is a tourism professional. Dua attended the Sylvia Young Theater School on a part-time basis until her family relocated to Kosovo in 2006 for her father’s profession.

Lipa attended Pristina’s Third Millennium School, where she developed an interest in hip hop musicians, who impacted her musical approach.

Lipa began her career at the age of 14 by uploading cover songs of her favorite musicians such as Pink and Nelly Furtado on YouTube. She was inspired by Justin Bieber’s discovery and rise to stardom, and wished to do the same. When she was 15, she returned to London intending to become a singer.

Lipa stayed with a friend and attended Parliament Hill School during the week, returning on weekends to attend the Sylvia Young Theater School. Dua earned money for her music tuition by working odd jobs like hostessing at restaurants and nightclubs.

When she was 16, she began working as a model for ASOS Marketplace to meet individuals who may help kickstart her music career.

She did, however, leave the firm after they advised her to reduce weight. She made her cinematic debut in 2013 when she appeared in a television commercial for “The X-Factor.”

That same year, while working as a cocktail server, she signed a deal with Tap Management. Tap Management gave her a monthly income in exchange for quitting her work and concentrating on music recording.

She co-wrote the song “Hotter than Hell” at one of these Tap recording sessions, which resulted in her obtaining a record deal with Warner Music Group in 2015.

In August 2015, she released her debut single “New Love.” Lipa’s second song, “Be the One,” debuted at #1 in Belgium, #6 in Australia, and #9 in the United Kingdom.

“Hotter than Hell” reached No. 15 in the United Kingdom and had adequate broadcast. In August 2016, she released her fifth song, “Blow Your Mind (Mwah),” which reached No. 30 in the UK.

It was her first chart appearance on the US Billboard Hot 100, debuting at No. 72. Later the same year, Lipa was featured on Sean Paul’s chart-topping track “No Lie.”

Lipa received the EBBA Public Choice Award in January 2017 and immediately released her following single, “Scared to Be Lonely,” a duet with Martin Garrix. The song peaked at No. 14 in the United Kingdom.
